Chapter 12

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was 7:30 on a Saturday night. I'm supposed to be ready to go by 8 and I am just now getting dressed. I don't know why but I am nervous. I have been on a date before, don't get me wrong. I just hadn't been on one with Jeremy. I didn't know what to expect. He didn't say I had to be dressed too nicely, so I dressed nice\/casual. Wearing a gold V neck shirt that glitters and a pair of black skinny jeans with my white sandal heals, I spun in front of my floor length mirror and smiled. Nice.
"Abby!" My mother shouted from the living room. "Jeremy is here!"
I breathed in and let it out slowly. Making one final fix of my hair I turned towards the door only to see him standing in the doorway. The look on his face was one of awe. I couldn't help but blush.
"Hi." I said shyly.
He smiled. His face lit up with the intensity of the smile. "You look great."
"Thanks." If I could blush deeper than I just did. "So where are we going?" I asked.
His eyes traveled down the length of my body, analyzing everything that he saw. I could feel the path that his eyes traveled. I've heard of that kind of feeling, but I guess I had never experienced it before. "We are going to dinner and a movie."
"Oh. Ok." I said, not able to think of something else to say.
As if that was what snapped him out of his trance, he looked into my eyes. "Are you ready to go?"
I nodded and we walked out into the living room. I told my mother that we were going out and that we were probably going to be late. She smiled and said, "Have fun!"
The drive to the restaurant was quiet. It wasn't even an awkward silence either. I was just quite. Then he turned and looked at me. "Thanks for coming out with me."
"Why wouldn't I?" I asked. Now I was somewhat curious why he would think I wouldn't go...
"I don't know. I guess I just had a feeling." A feeling? What kind of feeling?
Jeremy's POV
I don't know if I should tell her. Why ruin the evening? I did genuinely want to spend the evening with just her...but what if?
It was the same place that we used to frequent. I don't even know why I am taking her here. I just have a feeling...and normally that wasn't always a good thing. But, we are here now. She would question if I pulled back now. Stupid stupid stupid.
Abby's POV
We pulled in to a cozy looking little restaurant. It was somewhat busy considering it was a Saturday night. We walked in and were immediately taken to a table because we called ahead of time and made reservations. Apparently a good move.
The lighting was dim, but not too dim where you couldn't see. The table that we got was a bench seat and it was in a corner at the back of the restaurant. Another good choice, I might add.
We sat down and ordered our drinks from the little Spanish lady that met us at the table. I noticed that Jeremy seemed somewhat nervous. I don't think I have ever seen him so nervous. He was always calm and collected, but something seemed to have him on edge.
I cast a glance around, but saw nothing of interest. Families here, friend groups there, couples scattered through the restaurant. No one that I knew. Granted I haven't been here that long. He could know someone that was here.
When the waitress came up again and gave us our drinks, I took another look in Jeremy's direction. This time I caught him staring at me and I looked down quickly.
I heard Jeremy ask the waitress to give us just a few more minutes to look over what we would like for dinner. Then when she walked away, I looked up to see him smiling at me.
"What?" I asked with a laugh.
"Oh nothing." He shrugged and sat back. "I just cant seem to take my eyes off of you."
I rolled my eyes. "Lame." I laughed. "Can you come up with anything better?"
Jeremy's POV
Can I come up with anything better? Did she just ask that?! Apparently she hasn't heard the rumors yet.
After a couple of minutes of me scanning the area I finally relaxed because I hadn't seen here here. I don't know what I would do if I did.
To take my mind off of her, I concentrated on Abby. Leaning forward, I met her gaze. "Trust me Abby. I can do more than come up with something better." I smiled.
She just laughed and murmured something that sounded like "Ill believe it when I see it." But I couldn't be sure, because just then I heard the little bell on the door ring. I guess instincts had me looking up because there she was. Damn.
Abby's POV
I started laughing at his little comment, thinking about how cocky it sounded. All of the sudden he pales alarmingly and his eyes were glued on the door. I turned to see a skinny red head and a tall bute of a guy walk through the door. I guess he knows them.
"You know them?" I asked him over my shoulder.
He looked startled that I noticed. "Uh, um. Who? Them?" He said stuttering.
"Ya, them." I said, turning to face him full on wanting to hear his explanation.
He started opening and closing his mouth like he was trying to think of something quickly. His gaze kept going to the girl, and I was about to say something when he finally did.
"Yeah I know her." He motioned with his head to the redheaded girl. "She is my ex." He said. And if I wasn't mistaken it sounded like he was sad.
"Oh? An ex. Do I get to meet her?" I asked with false amusement. Seeing him squirm like this actually made me uncomfortable.
"I hope not..." He started, but when he noticed that the table next to us was empty and they were headed this way, he paled more. "I guess so."
Jeremy's POV
I had put two and two together. I saw the table that was empty in front of us and I saw the waiter heading our direction. Is was going to be really hard for her NOT to see me. Great. Just great.
I glanced back at Abby and tried a smile. But from the look of the frown on her face, she could tell it was definitely fake. "I'm sorry Ab...." but then I was interrupted.
"Jeremy?!" I whirled around to see her standing right next to our table, hand in hand with her new boyfriend.
"Shelby? What are you doing here?" I asked. Trying to act like I was surprised to see her. She could tell I wasn't. And from the look on her face, she was faking surprise as well.
"I am here with Dan. My boyfriend. And you?" She asked, looking in Abby's direction.
"Sorry! Shelby this is my girlfriend Abby. Abby this is my ex Shelby." I cringed at the "ex" factor. And if I wasn't mistaken...
"Nice to know you still call me that..." Shelby reprimanded me. Yup I knew it. She still hated it when I call her that. "I thought we were past that a long time ago Jeremy."
"What else is he supposed to call you? If in fact you are his ex, and you are not friends, then I guess 'Ex' is the best you are going to get." I heard Abby say. I looked at her and smiled.
Shelby just gawked at her. Dick, I mean Dan, started towing them towards their table. I breathed out a sigh of relief when the waitress appeared and took our order.
When I looked at Abby, I could tell there were many questions behind those eyes. And sometime tonight she was going to ask them. Whether I liked it or not.
