Chp 5

My alarm clock went off and I didn't want to get out of my warm cozy bed, just to go to work and listen to patients complain all day. I had the 7a-3p shift today and boy was I glad about that.

I promised Toni I would go out with her and her new boyfriend as the friend's babysitter while they enjoyed their date. I still can't believe I let her talk me into babysitting dudes friend especially since the last one was a disaster; but because she is like my own sister, I caved in and decided to help her out.

When I got to work shit was already out of control from the night before and it would be just my luck I walk in and the doctor is goin off on one of the new nurses. She was a new nurse just two months out of nursing school.

I walked over to her and grabbed her by the arm and dragged her ass into the lounge and told her to wait here until I came back. She shook her head and I headed back out and asked Dr.Taricone what he needed. He smiled and I shook my head at him, I knew he was about to chew up one side of that new chick and back down the other and not give it a second thought.

"Damn I am so glad you walked in when you did Nikki, I was about to give that worthless ass girl a piece of my mind." I know Dr.Taricone, I am glad I was here to save her.

"Indeed girlfriend, she was outta here." What do you need doc? "Can you go into room 23 and check the patient's blood pressure for me, I don't know if it's high or low cause dummy couldn't get the cuff on straight and I think I freaked her out even more when I came in and asked her what the hell she was doing."

Dr.Taricone, why would you do that?

"You know how the newbie's are?"

"I know but I have patients to treat and I don't have time for timid little girls that don't know how to come into a job and act like they have been here for more than a day."

 "Stop it doc I'm sure she is just nervous."

 "Remember the first day I came on here in the ER?"  

"Yeah I remember very well, and I also remember you didn't come in here like a scared little mouse, you came up in this bitch roaring like a lion" he laughed as he rubbed my shoulder.

"I know but everyone is different Dr.Taricone. "Give her another chance for me...please?"

"Oh alright, but if I do give her another chance, what will you give me?" he whispered in my ear.

 "Uhh Dr.Taricone", yeah he said, I summoned his ear to me with my finger and whispered in his ear, "what do you what me to give you?"

 I asked and he had this goofy grin on his face.

"Meet me for lunch and I will tell you what I want you to give me."

"I just laughed at him, I don't think so Dr."

"Oh why not Nikki?"

"We work together Dr.Taricone, and you know I don't mess around with people I work with."

"We aren't messing around its just lunch, my treat" he said giving me those beautiful grey puppy dog eyes.

"Well let me go take care of that room and go get the new girl and I will think about it ok?"

"Fair enough" he said, but before I walked off he grabbed me by the arm looking into my brown eyes with a smirk and said, "You can think about it, but I always get my way."

 I walked off giving him a better view of my apple bottom and I could hear him groan in his throat.  

I smiled to myself that Dr.Vincent Taricone is a trip he has been after me since the first day I started here.

I told him I never worked and played in the same place, but I guess he thinks because he is a doctor that makes him privileged somehow.

He was fine as hell, he a 6'4 Italian with straight jet black hair, dimples that will make you wet just looking at them; he's 240 lbs of muscle from his jaw down to his pinkie toe. His grey eyes are sensual yet they have this mysterious look in them. His smile is beautiful with his straight pearly whites just gorgeous, but I just can't have my personal life mixed with my work life.  

I finished checking on the patient then I went back in the lounge where the new girl was and she smiled when I walked in and she thanked me for helping her out because she was a mess at the time.

"So what's your name?"

"Keisha, but everyone calls me Keke."

"Hi Keke, my name is Nicole, and everyone calls me Nikki. "Nice to meet you Nikki and I smiled.  

"Listen I'm sorry Dr. Taricone was being ugly to you earlier, but he is a very hard working doctor and he is a very thorough doctor and is used to having all the small things like blood pressures, IV's and what not already done so when he comes and talks to the patient's he isn't interrupted with those things."

"I will tell you just a few things to remember when you are on the shift with Dr. Taricone. Make sure his patient's are in their gowns, their blood pressures and other vitals have been completed and IV's have been placed and all blood work drawn and he will be your best friend. I know it's a lot to remember but most of the time I work the morning shift so I will make sure to remind you."

"Thank you so much Ms. Nikki, you are the only person that has even said good morning to me."

"First things first, don't call me Ms. Nikki, it's just Nikki."

"Next thing don't pay these bitches no mind they all hateful as hell. You have grown a pair over here cause these chicks will have you in tears everyday if they can."

"Tell you what I will change my schedule for the next two weeks and let you work under me and I will train you then when I am done with you girlfriend, you will be one of the best ER nurses next to me."

She laughed and hugged me and told me how much she appreciated all I was doing to help her. I couldn't help but smile.

I knew how she felt, I went through the same bs when I first came over here; now these skanks know who runs this department over here and they betta not forget it.

The rest of the morning was uneventful, and I helped Keke out and showed her how to work her way around the ER and how triage was done and I was quite shocked at how quick she picked up on things.

I sent a text message out to all of the nurses on each shift and told them to meet me in the conference room on the other side of the ER for about 10 minutes. First I talked to the day shift which had to be done in parts because I didn't want the doctors to be short while the meeting was going on.

I explained to them all that when we have a new staff member come in I don't care who you are I wanted the new employees greeted and for someone to volunteer as a preceptor and get that person trained correctly on how things are done.

I informed them that if what happened this morning ever happens again, there would be hell to pay the piper. There were a few grumbles, but I wasn't worried about that cause those were the nurses that were one foot out the door anyway.

Once the meeting was over for the day shift, I went back to my office and finished some paperwork meanwhile I received a text from Dr. Taricone about lunch. I had to laugh to myself this man does not give up. I texted him back and agreed to have lunch with him and he told me he would meet me in the cafeteria in 20 min, which gave me enough time to finish my paperwork and go back and check on Keke.
