We trekked through the woods, moving up the tall mountain. We had a day till it got dark. I panted as the Krovotsky family moved their legs without releasing a single breath.
Silly wolf genes!
"you know..." Tristan spoke up from behind me. "For a wolf it would take about thirty minutes to move up this peak."
Zoe glared at him and smacked his arm, hard. Lily and Mr Krovotsky were too far ahead to reprimand their son.
Tristan jerked in response. "What? I'm just saying that for dear darling Elizabeth we are walking at an exceptionally slow pace, because we love her so much" He placed his arm around my shoulder.
I shook it off. "Stop,"
I felt a shove on my back.
"walk faster," He whispered.
I rolled my eyes at him in anger and irritation. Tristan was extra salty because we were going to the one place he hated... I think.
I asked Zoe what her dad and the boy had been talking about in their language.
"He was trying to convince him that you are an unshifted werewolf," She simply stated.
"What?"
"A late shifter, puberty hasn't hit you yet..." She and Tristan both laughed.
I could hear Tristan make a remark under his breath about puberty having hit me a long time ago but I pretended I didn't hear it and ignored the way his eyes ran down my body.
"What, why would your parents lie?"
"Our pack cannot know that we let slip our secret identity to a human. It would risk dad's job. Plus, Alpha King Romonav is living with the pack at the moment so we have to be extra careful. We'll keep you away from all figures of authority and the only person of high rank you'll be meeting, will be the gamma."
I nodded at her.
"Oh my goodness. Wait till you meet everyone in the pack. And I can't wait for us to party at the bonfire and ooh we can go to that wolf club across town. The alcohol there is really strong and it's the only place wolves can get drunk" She whispered lowly. "And did I tell you about the men- Ooooh did I tell you about the Alpha?"
I nodded my head grinning at her in excitement. "Yeah you told me he is a king,"
"hmhm" She nodded her head. "Did I tell you? He's so beautiful. He's so brave and..." She grabbed onto my arm in excitement. "He's only here for a little while and you're so lucky because he's usually busy with his royal duties to ever come to the pack. But we get to see him! He's so beautiful, you'll never feel attracted to humans ever again."
"I thought you said I couldn't go near him?"
"Oh right because he'll smell you out. Dammit! Wait no you know what, we can watch him from afar."
"That's the most stupidest thing you've said Zoe!" Tristan spoke up, listening to our conversation. "You are not going to a club you're still underage and it's unsafe to take Elizabeth with you. And Elizabeth, you are not to be in any proximity of the alpha. If he is in the room you are not in it."
I was surprised with how serious he was being. I mean he called me Elizabeth. What a mood changer!
"You're such a party pooper Tris,"
"Zoe he's a king for a reason. He hates humans, the second he smells Lizzie he'll know,"
My heart beat exceptionally fast whenever Zoe and her family talked about their Alpha. He was not only their alpha but the king of the realm. "Tell me about him Zo? What is he like? What kinds of things does he do as a king?"
