Two siblings. Brother and sister. But they aren't a normal pair of siblings. No, they were prone to accident, and this day wasn't any different.
The siblings were a subspecies of squirrel, more specifically the Amazon dwarf squirrel. They enjoyed each-other's company very much.
The sister's name was Berry. This was because her fur had a strange, pinkish tint to it. Her brother's name was Foam.
His fur has a soft, sea foam-like color to it. This year was special for them.
Berry was soon to turn 16 years, and Foam will soon turn 12.
Berry has been looking out for her brother for as long as she can remember.
Their father had wandered out of their cozy tree home, and had been taken by a bloodthirsty hawk that had been keeping its eye on their family for some time.
They had always managed to escape its clutches, but their father got sloppy. Berry was only two years old at the time, and Foam had barely begun to open his eyes.
This sent their mother into a spiral of guilt and depression.
She soon left their home, leaving the two squirrel pups behind.
Berry being the good daughter she is, waited for her mother to return without moving and without a single complaint.
After a few days, it dawned on her. They were alone.
