"You're going to be late!" Fiona's mother called out to her.It was her 1st day of junior year. Wow. Big deal, huh? Not to her. To Fiona Violetta, highschool is just 4 years of unnecessary work and depression. She finds no point in getting up in the morning and living at all really.
But, she keeps on living for 1 reason. Or person I should have said. Delilah. Her adopted sister is the reason she holds on to her will to live. She knows that Delilah needs her, and she needs Delilah.
"Yes, Mom! I'm coming!" She yells out, fixing her hair and adjusting the strings on her hoodie. As she's running out the door, she kisses her sister on her head and wishes her good luck on her first day of 6th grade. How sweet.
She caught the bus at the last moment and sits down in one of the seats near the back. She's sits down and pops her earbuds in her ears. The first song that plays on her shuffle is "Happiness is a butterfly" by Lana Del Rey. Great music taste.
Subconsciously, she starts humming along as she stares out the window. She's not all that bad, really.
"You're off key." A strange voice startles her. She subdued quickly after he sat down next to her. "Jesus, you scared me." She said uncomfortably. "Sorry." He said chuckling, exposing his adorable braces.
"Not funny... wait, who're you?" Fiona asked. "Me? Oh, I'm your mom." He joked. "Haha," she said sarcastically. "But for real though?" She asked, trying to make small talk. "I'm Eli. But you can call me mullet daddy." He winked.
She actually laughed. If her mom were there, she would say "Finally!" She kind of liked this boy. But they were complete opposites. That's not always such a terrible thing, right? Friends are friends. Something she was lacking.
"What about you? What's your name?" He asked her curiously. "Fiona, but my friends call me Fi." She answered. "Okay, Fi. I see you." He said, fake impressed.
They continued to chit chat. You know, high school stuff. They hadn't even realized the bus was moving because by the time they were about to wrap up their conversation, the bus pulled up to their school.
"Here, let me give you my number. That way, we can keep this convo going." He offered. She handed her phone over to him and he gave it back to her.
This dumbass put his contact name as "mullet daddy 😈"
As she was about to give him her opinion, he was already walking off the bus.
She scoffed and chuckled. Shortly after, she climbed off the bus and made her way to her first class.
"My, my, my. Look who the cat dragged in!" Eli said as he stared at Fiona in fake disbelief. Fiona was in her first class of the day, and so was Eli, apparently. "Eli? What are you doing here?" She said, in real disbelief. He sat down and retorted, "Oh, I was just stalking you. Y'know, just following you to your classes, and whatnot." She chuckled. "No, dummy. I'm in this class."
"Okay, class. Welcome, year of 2023. I'm Ms. Velasquez and I'll be your Spanish teacher this year. We will be learning the Spanish dialect of Español." A nice little lady with a small accent said.
"¿Puedo ir al baño, por favor?" Eli said. From her middle school years of Spanish, she knows that he just asked to use the restroom. "Muy bien. You may." She permissed.
She then realized he left a note on her desk. "Meet me in 5 minutes. Don't be late." The note read. Should she really skip class to hang out with a boy she just met? Yeah, she should.
"May I please use the restroom?" She asked her in her sweetest voice. "You may." Mrs. Velasquez agreed. She gathered her things and left the classroom
"I was wondering if you were going to join me." Eli smirked, leaning against the wall. "Well? Where are we going?"
***
"Where are you taking me?" Fiona asked the boy in front of her, leading her to a place unknown. "You'll find out, we're almost there." He pointed out.
Suddenly, they turned a corner and a beautiful, rocky, sandless beach came into view. She stared at the sandless beach in awe.
"Welcome to my thinking place." He announced. "This... this is beautiful..." she said. "I know, right?" He said walking them over to where the waves stopped crashing.
The water was sparkling oh so beautifully. She'd never noticed this place. How did she not notice this beach? "You probably bring all your girlfriends here, don't you?" She cringed at the thought. "Oh, so you're my girlfriend now?" He chuckled.
"You know what I meant," she scoffed. "Well, no. I don't. I don't bring anyone here. It's my thinking place. But, I think that you need a place to just, think. Y'know? I just got that vibe from you," he said, as if he wanted to say 'nevermind' with every word he said.
"Want a joint?" She asked, pulling a bag of herbs out of her bra. She grabbed some paper from her backpack and ripped it into a rollable size. "Duh," he said like it was obvious. She carefully placed some of the herb onto the paper and rolled it until she got to the end.
She licked a thin stripe on the end of the roll to close it up. Eli was watching with such precision, he hadn't even realized he got a hard-on. She looked up at him and chuckled. "You got something you need to take care of?" She pointed towards the tent in his sweatpants. He had finally noticed it and started blushing, like a tomato.
He was struggling to come up with an explanation for his problem. The only things that were coming out of his mouth were "It's just-um- that, like, you know..." she honestly found it adorable that he was stumbling over his words over something so simple as rolling a joint.
The boner quickly subsided, but he was still flustered, nonetheless. "You still want a hit?" She asked, pulling a lighter out from her pocket. "Yeah, sure," he agreed.
Damn bro. He needed to get under control.
But then again, she'd be lying if she said he wasn't fine.
