Val's POV It's been a few hours and Alex and Jay just has been catching up. I kept my distance and socialized here and there whenever. Alex asked me something. It's 2am and the kids are asleep. Alex is past out drunk. Jay brought him upstairs while I cleaned up the living room and kitchen.
"So, you never left Chicago" Jay says leaning up against the wall with his arms crossed
"Why would I? Chicago is my home" I say while washing the dishes
"And you could've called or texted to let me know these past few years?"
"You know why Jay"
"Yes I know I screwed up but have you thought about the kids not having their father in their lives? Especially in their first years" Jay says starting to raise his voice
"Yes! I have thought about it! Every single fucking day! You don't know how many times I wanted to pickup the phone and call but at the same time I didn't want to because I don't want someone toxic in my life or my kids lives" I say getting angry and raising my voice
"OUR KIDS VALERIE! OUR KIDS"
"Lower your voice"
"Does he know?"
"No and I want to keep it that way"
"It's not like he'll care anyway. I've seen the way he looks and talks to you"
"How would you know? He's been here since day one for me and the kids"
"Trust me, I know my best friend"
"Can you just stop and help me clean up so I can go to bed with my fiancé"
"How can you even marry that douchebag"
"GODDAMIT JAY STOP!" I say slamming the plate in the sink causing it to shatter
"Shit!" I mutter to myself as I try to pickup the broken pieces only to cut my hand
"Let me see it" Jay says coming over with a rag
"I got it" I say taking the rag from him and pressing it against the wound
"Give me your hand"
"I said I got it" I said walking away
I go over to one of the cabinets and grabbed the first aid box. I placed gauze on the wound and then wrapped it with the cotton roll.
"I'm gonna head out" Jay says
"It's late. Just stay here tonight. I'll get you some pillows and and a blanket. You can crash on the couch" I said before putting everything back in the cabinet and heading upstairs
I grabbed two pillows and a fleece blanket from the upstairs closet. Grabbed a spare toothbrush as well. I brought it all downstairs and placed it on the couch.
