Schwellenangst- fear of crossing a threshold to embark on something new.
Katsuki hated summer. Despised it way more than the other seasons. Spring made his allergies go crazy, almost exploding whatever he had in his hands every time he sneezed. Fall was so messy. Leafs all over the place that his mother always made him rake up. Winter was too cheerful. Everyone is on a happy high of the holidays. But summer. Summer made him sweat and frustrated from heat, those combined made him explode every ten minutes. On top of that, there was no school so he wasn't allowed to exercise his quirk. Yeah, Katsuki hated summer.
But why despite his hate for the season, was he sitting at a park waiting for a yappy middle schooler because of a promise he made to a girl that got on his nerves to no end?
He thinks back to the first time he met her. When he was walking into a convenience store and was rammed into by a flurry of bright pastels. He had immediately pushed the girl off him, cuss words flying out of his mouth. His anger rose when she simply sat there with a wide-eyed look on her face.
"What the hell are you looking at, damn extra?!" He had yelled from where he sat in front of her.
"Wow," was her breathless reply. "You're really angry!"
He damn near exploded right there and then.
After that inconvenience to his night, he ran into her many more times throughout June. She greeted him with her high-pitched happiness every time and proceeded to follow him around the store, or park, yapping his ears off. He learned they were in the same grade, and that she had just moved here from America, telling him stories he didn't even attempt to remember.
But last week was when his opinion of her had changed. When she stopped being the bubble of pastels that he wanted absolutely nothing to do with. When she was no longer a useless extra in his way.
"You goddamn asshole!" He had heard her scream. His jaw hanging loosely at the vulgar words from where he was ducked between the bushes, that he jumped into when he had seen her.
"What the hell did you say to me?!" The middle-aged man yelled back.
"I think she asked you about five times to leave her alone! Or are you not only so lonely you have to take girls by force but also deaf?" Katsuki had stared in awe at the fire in her eyes he didn't know she was capable of.
"This is none of your business, bitch!"
Katsuki watched as she started to pat her pockets and look around her feet in a hurried motion.
"What the hell are you doing?" The man had asked, taking a step forward and yanking her hand out of her pocket.
"I'm looking for the fucks I can give, and it looks like I'm out at the moment!" She forcefully shoved the man away from her. "She looks like a fucking middle schooler and you've been following her around since she got here! Are you a creepy stalker, huh?! She even asked you to back off! I wasn't going to step in until you started dragging her by her damn hair out of the park!"
Pastels took a step in front of the small girl, who was cowering behind her, keeping her out of the old man's sight.
"Excuse me? She looked lost! I was just trying to help! How dare you say such rude words to your elder! Show me some respect!"
"If you want respect, then do something to earn it! I only give respect where respect is deserved and that definitely isn't to assholes like you!"
The man started to tower into her space, reaching for the young girl behind Pastel's back. Katsuki took a step out of the bush, determined not to let the creep lay his hands on either of the girls in front of him when Pastel surprised him yet again.
