They lept from their blankets, their hands reaching for their axes at their waists. I giggled, then my faced turned back to its straight, glum way, almost without me thinking. It was intuition now, to do that.

Turning to Thorin, I kept my voice at a monotone when I said "I will go find fresh meat for the dwarves and I. There is a long ride ahead, and they will need the strength."

Thorin nodded knowingly, but said "I agree, but after the orc sightings last night, I do not think it would be safe for even you to go alone. Take Kili with you."

*Kili's POV*

She stood still for a second, then, with the same calm, collected look on her face, spun and whistled, and her stallions cantered over to her. She whispered in their ears for a second, and when she drew away and raised her eyebrows at them, they nickered softly, and flung their heads up and down.

She said in a quiet yet clear voice, "My horses will stay with you while we are gone. They shall let you know if we are trouble and require assistance."

The horses now spun like a well-oiled machine, and went to their usual placing; one at Bofur's shoulder and the other at Fili's. They were their main prey, because they were utterly terrified of them.

Now she turned her face to me, and her lips turned up at the corners of her mouth to form a slight smile. "Are you ready, O black haired archer?"

I grinned back, and laughing answered, "As ready as I'll ever be, Wolf Queen"

She stood for a moment, staring at me, before spinning sharply and evenly, and racing away into the wood.

I ran after her, but after what seemed an age, I started to get tired, as, after all, as Gloin says, dwarves are sprinters and wasted on long distance.

Calling out to her, she laughed and slowed down, stopping and waiting for me to catch up. We walked for a while, talking and laughing, when she stopped suddenly, and stooped to the ground, studying the earth behind picking up a handful of the dark brown soil and sifting it through her hands.
