She stood up again, but slowly and softly, as if she was scared her bones creaking would sound out loud. She had only just stood upright again, when a rustling sound resonated to our left, and she dashed of through the trees into the undergrowth, too quick for me to think of going after her. I stood stock still, and slowly pulled and arrow from my quiver and fitted it to my bow.

A slight scratching sound came again from my left, but behind me, and I spun around and neatly fitted the arrow into the hollow of a certain smirking Silver Mist's neck.

I did not release the arrow, rather released the string and put the arrow back in my quiver. When I looked back at Mist, I saw that she had something slung over her shoulder; a large deer. She dropped it on the ground and stepped neatly out of the way, then stooped and removed a tiny dagger embedded in its throat.

I must have been staring, because when she stood upright again, she laughed and said "It is impolite to stare, prince"

I shut my open and gawking mouth, and she said "I am going to shift now. Help me get it on my back when I do."

Again, she pulled her necklace from underneath her jerkin, and whispered something into it, and then collapsed to the ground. Although I had seen it before, I still wasn't quite ready for it, and blinked my eyes furiously when the light blinded them.

Still, when the shoulder high wolf appeared I front of me, I grabbed the doe and struggled to hoist it upon her huge shoulder blades. She stood, looking in amusement for a few minutes, then grabbed the shoulder in her enormous white teeth and flicked it, landing it on her back.

We walked in silence for a while, partly because of the fact that I could not keep up with my short legs compared to her enormous, easy, gliding strides. Longshanks, I named her in my mind.

When we reached the forest edge again, we met a sight of 13 ponies all packed up with their owners sitting around a fire. The other dwarves sat with their backs to us, fidgeting and murmuring unhappily. Silver stalked among the trees at the edge of the forest, and I had to run after her with panting breath. As silver reached the edge of the forest, she turned and looked at me, with a glint in her eyes that I couldn't quite catch. The morning light was catching her coat, and her huge paws moved gracefully and silently that was amazing for a beast her size. Shifting the deer on her back, she continued to pad along until she reached the line of backs facing us.

Finding the blue hood, she suddenly and swiftly arched her back and flicked the deer onto the surprised lap of uncle Thorin. I laughed, his face, which had turned to face us along with all the other dwarves, was consorted into a mask of pain from the deer's weight and anger at the fact the it had been deposited on his lap.

The edge of Silver's lips turned upwards, in what could be called a smile, if wolves could smile. She waited for a moment, and then she slumped to the ground again and a flash of light filled the air. All of a sudden, a grinning and laughing Silver Mist stood before us, in her human form. The others had obviously not gotten used to this changing period yet, and were muttering and rubbing their eyes.

"Why did you do that?!" Exclaimed Thorin, gesturing to the full grown deer piled uncomfortably on his lap.

"Because you let down your guard, that's why." Answered Silver Mist, smirking at the enraged dwarves. I walked to my pony, and hid my hysterical smile in her mane.
