Out in the middle of nowhere Leo Doorlander walks looking for life, as of this minute he thinks he is the only one left. For two weeks he has been walking away from his home, the home that he shared with his wife of 8 years. As much as they could be married, for they were all alone and had not seen anyone in years. It was the house they had always wanted, and promised they would remain together for the rest of their days. After she died that all changed for him, now he did not know where he belonged. He had no one to love, and no one to look to for support. Leo knew he was in a fight against time itself, and did not have any idea how to win.
The year is 2035 ten years after the world ended, or so it seemed. Something happened and a plague swept all around the world, and within a month ninety five percent of the people on earth were gone. All around the world everyone was at a loss, some found others right away others did not. Leo and Piper Slay were two people that found each other, and fell deeply in love. They were 15 at the time, and were left to find a new life. They walked for days before finding one another, and vowed not to leave each other. They agreed that it was like the world had brought them together for a reason, not sure what it was but they knew none the less.
Looking around the hill sides to the north, he could see all the wild life that has reclaimed the land. The houses that once used to be filled with people, now were homes for the animals. He walked around until he came to the outskirts of a town, and had a seat looking down into the town. As he looked down into town below, he started to tear up. Thinking of all the life that used to be here, wondering of what might have been if not for the plague. He still had no idea how many people if any were left. As he sat there looking into town something caught his eye, but he was not sure what to make of it. Something in town got the animals a little spooked, and he could tell it was not just another animal.
Leo looked harder into town slowly scanning from one side to the other, looking for whatever was out there. He could feel his heart race, as the thought of another person crossed his mind. He looked long and hard across town, until he saw what looked to be the barrel of a gun. As soon as he got sight of it a shot rang out, and a deer in the center of town fell to the ground. The shot made him freeze in place, and then he jumped to his feet with a sense of anticipation.
With his heart beating faster than before, he started walking slowly down the hill into town. Moving closer and closer, Leo watched for movement from where the shot came from. He moved between some buildings out of sight, his heart beating faster and faster. He looked around but did not see anything, he was close to where the deer had fallen. He could see the deer good enough to know it was dead, but he could not see in the direction of where the shot came from. He thought it best to stay out of sight and wait, and maybe catch a glimpse of the person that shot the animal. He sat in a small alley for what seemed forever, but still no sign of anyone to clam the hunt.
As he sat there, he could make out the sounds of someone moving, but could not tell where it was coming from. The next thing he heard was the gun cocking behind him, he spun around slowly to see the barrel of a gun pointed at him. Leo's heart went up into his throat; he had never been at the end of a gun before. Everything went silent, he could not hear anything not even the birds. His heart beat was so strong, and felt as if it was going to explode from his chest. He moved his eyes slowly up the barrel of the gun, and to the trigger. He could see a firm yet gentle hand around the trigger, and slowly could hear a voice. It was a voice that sang in his ears like music, to hear a voice other than his own was breath taking. The voice was a women's voice, yet he could not take his eyes off the trigger to look up at her.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"I'm not doing anything!"
"You are trying to take my deer, aren't you?"
