(After meeting the prydwen's crew with Paladin Danse, Nathan was called to the command deck by the elder council)
Nathan: You called me here, elder council?
Maxson: Yes. As I'm sure you're aware, Cambridge was simply the first step towards the liberation of the commonwealth. An even greater task lies ahead
Nathan: The institute?
Maxson: Yes. By now, I'm sure you've deduced that our arrival in the commonwealth wasn't coincidental. We're here because of a unique energy reading recorded by Paladin Danse's recon team. According to our scribes, the reading has indicated a level of technology that only the institute could achieve. The moment this information came to light, our mission became clear. The institute and everyone responsible for the creation of their synths must be eliminated at all costs
Nico: To accomplish this goal, we need to locate the institute's headquarters. I've had our scribes meticulously searching the commonwealth, but they've come up empty handed, even with the detectors I've created. That's where we need your help
Sarah: You lived here for a long time, so you know the area better than any of us. They could have gone underground. Like the sewers, or transit tunnels, and maybe even an old vault. We just don't have enough information right now
Nathan: Actually I have a way to infiltrate the institute using a device called a signal interceptor
Maxson: So it appears we share a common goal. I'm pleased that you've chosen to come to the brotherhood of steel for help. Now, indulge me for a moment by satisfying my curiosity. Tell me why you're so eager to get into the institute
Nathan: The institute is the group responsible for kidnapping my son
Nico: Oh my god. I'm sorry
Sarah: I can't imagine how that must feel. I'd lose myself if I lost Owen
Nathan: Who's Owen?
Nico: Sarah and I had a child, and we named him Owen, after his grandfather, Owyn Lyons. The original elder of the brotherhood of steel. Back from when Elder Maxson here was a child, and I was just a runaway vault boy
Sarah: If there's anything we can do to help, make sure to let us know
Maxson: The institute preys on the weak to further their own ends. Together we'll make them pay for their crimes. I'll call ahead and brief proctor Ingram. Report to the airport and get to work on your project right away
Nathan: Actually, there's another thing we need to discuss
Maxson: What's that?
Nathan: The brotherhood of steel isn't the only one working on the signal interceptor
Nico: Who else is involved?
Nathan: My wife Nora looped the minutemen in on the signal interceptor. And I think it would be easier if we combined our efforts
Nico: Hmm. That might be a good idea
Maxson: One more thing. In order to bring the institute to it's knees, we need to use every weapon at our disposal. I try to supply our soldiers with the best. That's why I'm giving you these
(Elder Maxson hands Nathan some signal grenades)
Maxson: Signal grenades can call a vertibird to your location when you need some air support. Simply light one and throw it on the ground, and the vertibird will hone in on the unique electromagnetic smoke it emits. And once you're aboard, you can use the map on your pip boy to interface with the pilot's navigation systems so he'll be able to get you wherever you need to go
