The Update- A Year And A Half Later

Anyway, I wrote this ficlet a year and a half ago, about two weeks after the lockdown started. Now, an eternity later, Sivonne encounters a Karen in the grocery store.
The Karen was based off various Facebook mom blogs I've read lately.

"I'm so glad we're vaccinated." Hailey grinned. "We finally don't have to wear masks anymore."

"Same. Plus, even if we probably couldn't get the virus in the first place, it's better to be safe than sorry." I smiled back. It felt weird to walk around with my face uncovered, but weird in a good way. "Plus, it sets a good example for others."

"Honestly, I have no idea what those people on that Facebook mom blog were talking about. There really weren't any side effects, I mean, my arm hurt and I was tired for a few hours, but that was it."

"Facebook mom blogs don't know anything." I elbowed my girlfriend playfully.

"Yeah, they don't."

"You know, I am so glad to see someone else standing up to this tyranny." An old lady with a rather shrill voice walked up to us. "They can't muzzle us! It's a violation of our first amendment rights!"

"Uh... Okay?" I blinked a few times.

"And the vaccine- everyone knows it's the Mark of the Beast! They'll inject you with computer chips loaded with the gay agenda so they can track your every move!"

"Okay....?" I looked over at Hailey. "She's crazy!" I mouthed.

"Yeah, you and your friend are so brave to do this, to stand up against the phony virus. It's just the Chinese trying to take over the world!"

"I'm sorry if you got the wrong idea, lady. We're not anti-maskers. We're vaccinated." I looked over at Hailey, giving her a tiny peck on the cheek. "And we're not friends, we're gay."

"Well, I'm bi, but whatever." Hailey added.

"You... I knew it! I was right! The vaccine does turn you into a homosexual!"

"Yeah, but just so you know, I was gay before the whole vaccine thing. Though if it made me gayer, I'm really not complaining. Women are hot."

The weird lady looked at me incredulously, and stormed off. "Y'all are going to hell!"

I yelled back. "I'm counting on it! That's where all the hot lesbians are!" Hailey rolled her eyes.

Once la senora loca left, Hailey looked over at me in disbelief. "Siv, you're weird."

"That's what you love about me."

"You know that wasn't a compliment, right?"

"Are you kidding me? Weird is a compliment." I took a bow. "At least, to cool people."
