A smile had made it to Nikhil's face when he saw his lunch box. He wasn't sure what was inside, but he knew Sharanya had made it. He sat down, unzipped the bag, brought out the small boxes. After wiping his hands with the tissue, he began to open the lid. His face fell. Regular white rice sprinkled with roasted cumin seeds. Still having hope he opened the other boxes— one more box of rice, and two of dal.
Maybe he had high expectations. He thought she would have made something he'd like. At least his mother packed some namkeen or snack with the boring food. He peeped inside the lunch bag and brought out the box he had missed. It had salad. He peeped into the lunch bag again. No more boxes. There was a small piece of paper. He picked it up.
I hope I can change your perspective about boring. Stir the dal nicely before heating. It's dal tadka, best when hot. Also, heat the rice.
Have a nice day ahead!
A bright smile had made it to Nikhil's lips. He didn't care about the dal. The note made him feel special. It felt so nice to see someone put efforts for you and not just that but go beyond the expected at it. He opened a drawer and placed the note there. He did exactly as the note had instructed and sat down once more. He was surprised at the first bite, the dal actually tasted good. He stirred it to find tiny pieces of onion. It had a nice flavour. Damn, Sharanya had definitely succeeded in what she intended to do— dal wasn't boring anymore.
He was mid-way through his meal when his secretary, Pavithra entered the room. "Sir, you had called." She said noticing that he was having his lunch. "Do you want to order something?" She asked, accustomed to ordering something from the canteen for him once in a while during lunch breaks.
"No, I just ..." Nikhil had actually forgotten why he had called her. "I actually wanted you to set up a meeting with David for me. Tomorrow sometime." He said covering up for his forgetfulness.
"Noted," she said.
"Oh, and" He spoke up remembering. "Would you be kind enough make an itinerary for me. I understand it's a little personal than professional request. But I would really appreciate if you could make one."
"Sure," the woman spoke up a little surprised.
"Italy, two or three cities would be okay, and even better if you could put a few options or alternate options; from things to do, to hotels, everything. So that Sharanya can pick whatever she prefers. Tentative dates will be around the second last weekend of this month to first January. I will be taking a vacation in that period. So, please let Sachin know that he may be asked to look into high priority client issues, if any. Add this to the agenda of my next meeting with him."
"I am assuming this is for your Honeymoon?" She asked.
"Yes, it is."
"Alright," She said.
