Darren's P.O.V
My alarm on my phone went off, exactly at 5:30 in the morning. I woke up early enough, so I could eat breakfast, shower, feed the dogs, and prepare myself for a work day ahead.
Owning a racing farm isn't easy, even with volunteers and workers. I have to make decisions regarding most of my horses, be on the farm most of the day, and have a open schedule for any emergency involving my human or equine friends. Of course I don't regret buying the land, I wouldn't trade it for anything. This farm is my world, and I plan on living on it until I die.I got out of bed, rubbing the tiredness from my eyes, and getting up, I headed for my kitchen to eat a fast breakfast.
My phones ringtone went off, while I was placing toast in the toaster, I reached over and answered it, hitting the speaker phone button so I could listen to the speaker, while making my breakfast.
"Hello?" The voice said, I recognized it, it my new broodmare caretaker, Lea.
"Yes?" I replied.
"Mr.Darren, Morning Step is foaling." She sounded anxious on the other end.
"Okay, um, let me finish in here. I'll be out in like fifth-teen." I replied, taking the not really toasted toast out of the toaster, and eating it. I hurried to my bedroom and get dressed, and after about fifteen minutes, I was ready to leave the comfort of my fire place heated house, to the cold and frozen land outside.Inside of the broodmare barn, Lea, Naya, and Heather were leaning against a stall.
"Any sign of the foal" I asked, walking towards the three of them.
"No." Naya sighed. Naya was the groom I could trust the most. She has been here for almost four years and knows the ropes around here. Lea and Heather are newer, but are showing that they can be responsible grooms.
Thirty minutes later, and we could see the foals front legs appearing. The mare, who is 13 years old, was by War Front. She has foaled five colts, we were all hoping she would foal a filly. Everyone called her May, for short. Her racing name was A-mayzing. Out of her twelve total starts, she won eight, and lost four.
"Oh, look!" Heather said, smiling.
The foals head was emerged, as well as the shoulders, May was grunting and moving her front legs.
"I would say, about five more minutes and the foal will be out." Naya mentioned, looking at me.Surely enough, five minutes later, and a beautiful black colored filly was alive and breathing. She could barely hold her head up, the four of us rushed in, to clean her off and help her stand. The vet would be on the property within the next ten minutes.
"That's the first filly May has ever had."
"I know, she's really well built." Heather said. The vet arrived, and checked May and her filly. Both of them were healthy.
"Have a name?" Lea asked, smiling.
"Uh, I'm keeping it a secret..for now she will be known as May15." I replied.
"Okay sir, I'll tell Heather and Naya." Lea added.•••
