Play It Again

There is a room in my house where it is silent except for the sharp plucking of wires, puppeteered by notes scratched onto the pale paper before me.

The wires freeze from eerie whispers that creep through the walls, echoing alongside a loud firey hiss and screech that breach the shadows.

A door is the only thing keeping those creatures from hearing my secret combination, but unbeknownst to me, the solemn springed strings are still audible, the sharp screeches eclipsing their own.

At times I can almost forget they're there until I am given a sharp reminder of their presence when the flimsy door slams open with an almost overwhelmingly loud crack and thud, forcing my slow hands to hide the scratched papers before they can be picked apart by their darkened gazes.

When the wires ask of me to sing along with them, I have no choice but to force out my pitiful voice, keeping it low enough to never again disturb the monsters in my walls.

After what feels like a petrifying lifetime, the wires cut through the soft flesh of my fingers, making the imperfections of the haunting melody come to light. And even when I wish to stop, the wires always seem to beg: "Please."

"Play it again."

Okay, okay, I know it's been a while, and I've said that I was back many times when I really wasn't, but now I really am! And this time, I actually know how to write a good story from two semesters of creative writing classes!

And a bit of background to this story: It was actually a warm up prompt in my class to write about our favorite places in our houses, and then write the same thing again but in a different genre. I chose horror because I've never actually tried to write scary stuff before... But it actually turned out pretty good, if I say so myself.

But yeah, that's me for now! I'll be working on other stories on and off so I might not be too active, but I'm back! And better than ever!

I'll be seeing y'alls later! =)
