Your hands upon the cigarette. Lighter brought to the unburned tobacco.
Fire bringing it to life as I heard it sizzle. Its soft, orange glow stood out to me in this dimly lit room.
You didn't say a word to me despite your talkative tongue. You knew I preferred solitude and silence but you refused to leave me be.
No lanterns were burning. The moon was the only thing providing light for my reading. I'd rather sit in the dark than look at your complacent face.
I found out that you were living another life behind my back. Infuriated couldn't even begin to describe how upset I was.
The words printed on the pages became harder for me to pay attention to as the minutes ticked by.
And you just had to break your silence at the most unpleasant of times.
"Will you say anything to me?"
Sorrow was bleeding through your attempt at your usual articulation of steady cadence.
Your plea fell upon deaf ears.
"I apologize for never telling you. I didn't have any reason to do that. What I did was disrespectful and unasked-for. I beg your forgiveness."
I, once again, turned a blind eye to you as if you were never there.
"Please, at least say something."
I could tell by the tremor in your voice that you were desperate.
Eventually, you admitted defeat.
And you left without a word.
