Wake up, 3 Am, Dream, Paint. your life, The whispering wouldn't stop, and neither would your hand, guiding the brush across the canvases, or now the walls. Sometimes you couldn't even tell the red paint from your blood. Your windows were slacked over in layers of paint, scraped, and sled. It was the 4th day of your painting of the castle. You couldn't get it out of your head, it was banging in the walls of your skull, trying to get out.
When the walls inside were full, you went to the streets for more canvas. Almost overnight downtown New York looked like an art museum. It was a Kingdom of gold, with flourishing people and families. Golden guards with Shiningly helmets and horses surrounded the gates. Then came the old man with the eye patch, grand staff, and armor. His beautiful mage of a wife, and now- Their children.
And that's when the sun rose, and the people of New York began to wake.
Now you stood in front of a brick wall, your hands covered in color, it wasn't right. You weren't doing enough. There was still more. More to the Golden Gates, more to the rainbow streak.
More to you.
You heard rumbling footsteps approach you, making you scramble and flinch to the wall. Instead of feeling that expected brick exterior, you just feel the air. The winds ripping through and around you.
💫
This was the fifth day you snuck off to those gates again. But today, you were going to enter them. You had come to few conclusions- one, no one could see you. Two; you could move, touch and interact with any object. Three; You never wanted to go home. Your first steps, and you were in the kingdom's city. Or what you assumed was a city, there were stands, shops, and families just like in your paintings.
Or rather, your visions. In a moment you sped off through the sellers and explored to your heart's content. And now, you took another step into the grand castle gates. That shiny armor lined the walls like you remembered, Even the floor shine was familiar. As you explored, you heard great shouts and clashes. You turned a hall to see Thor and his warrior's all having a grand banquet. "Wow.." You breathed out, looking around. The food looked amazing, as well as the wood.
You could spend hours following the unique designs of every plank. And you had, before. A plate clanked to the floor as Thor took to the table. That's when you noticed a man in the near corner. His slick-backed hair and cold blue eyes almost seemed real to you. You let the chills travel through your spine. You had painted Loki thousands of times. And here he was. You were not disappointed, to say the least. Normally someone would question why a drink like that was to the side, especially a prince. But you knew. You had seen it all, every glare, every glance, every want. The god just wanted to join in, to be accepted by his brother. To be accepted by his father, To be accepted by his kingdom.
And now that you were here, You could make it happen.
You followed his eyes as it led to that fallen dish, His eye's widened. You looked to it yourself to see- You. Your reflection was there. Loki was looking at You. You flinched back out of sight. He marched towards you, taking a big gulp you assured yourself he couldn't see you without that reflection. You were just a hallucination to the god. That's all.
That's all you'd ever be. As he reached out his hand, he touched you. And in a moment, you were gone.
He touched you. He touched you! Did he touch you?
He wasn't supposed to be able to touch you. You supposed if you could touch a cup or a tree, you could touch anyone. But now he knew you were there. But, it wasn't like he could do anything about it. If anything, you were his friendly neighborhood ghost. You were sure he had gotten a fair share of those, living in a mythical realm like his. Beginning tomorrow, you were just a hallucination. A hallucination who had some fun.
💫
Loki spent almost the entire night wondering what that reflection was. For somebody who felt like nobody, you were really sticking to this god's tongue. He would've chalked you off as a small glance, but he touched you. You were real. "Loki? LOKI!" Loki snaps from his trance to see his brother getting his attention. Loki takes a breath, and answers "What?" Thor smiles and says "There we are!"
"Thought we lost you. Now, you will be joining us for our training won't you?" he offers. Loki glares, but glances at the group of warriors. They all desperately want him to decline. "Actually, I have- other business today. Perhaps another time, brother." Loki says, before standing straight and leaving, when Odin walked through. "Off to training?" He questions. "Of- Of course," Loki says, changing his route.
You glare at the old man, he seemed much more- Good in your paintings. You had given him much too much credit. You wouldn't make that mistake again. As you followed the group of warriors, you paid attention to the way they treated your favorite god. "Let's ensure that no snakes slither through are laws of training again." Lady Sif speaks up, "Ah, But snakes can be hard to catch." Another joins. Loki scoffs, before saying "Perhaps Ass's are fool enough to fall for them." The two warriors glare, "Any Ass can squish a snake." Sif corrects.
You lean your foot in front of hers, making her trip. Loki snickers, "Perhaps Ass's should watch where they trot. Sometimes wandering aimlessly isn't the best way." He adds, walking in front of her. She basically growls as she lets herself up. This was going to be easy.
That whole day you tripped, threw, nacked, and annoyed the warriors, Especially when Frigga and her handmaidens passed by the guild. In those last few teases, you hadn't noticed your reflection show in the river by the training ground.
Or your reflection on the shiny pillars, but Someone did.
💫
It was that night when it happened, Loki stood in front of his mirror and took a breath. "Show yourself." He spoke, You step behind him with an eyebrow raised. He turns around to air, and back to the mirror you were gone. "Are you scared?" You ask, appearing again, closer. "No, I'm not afraid." Loki responds, "But curious." Your eyes flicker. "Who wouldn't be I guess.." You ponder, "Why are you helping me?" Loki asks, coldly. "Not everything's about you." you say, "But it could be."
His eyes glimmer as you say it. "Loki, they treat you like shit. Just because you're different. But maybe- they should treat you better because you are. Your father just needs- To see that. You could say that he is blind." "Your mom already sees it. She still loves Thor but She loves you. It's only a matter of time before Thor makes a mistake and you get the crown right?" You add, "Only a matter of time..." Loki Ponders. You nod.
"Who are you?" Loki repeats. You look down, "I think- somebody like you." You respond, before looking back up. "But this time- I can do something about it." You wondered how long it had been since you left home. "And I will" You add.
"I Will."
