Warmth.
How long has it been since I felt warmth?
But this wasn't the same warmth I use to know, this wasn't a loving, caring warmth.
It was wrong. Unatural even.
My light skined hand brushed my left cheek where the source of the heat hand come from. The dark red substance staining my fingertips.
I felt my breath go loose and rattle unevenly in my ribcage when I saw the crimson liquid.
I didn't mean it. I didn't want to hurt it. So why- why did I?
Before I knew it my whole body was vigorously shaking not just because of the winter air that pricked and stung my exposed skin, but at the sight of the small bird infront of my feet.
It's different colored feathers soaked in blood."Kiken! Kiken- there you are! You mother and I have been looking for you. " My father's voice fell on deaf ears, my sole focus was on the injured animal infront of me.
"Oh I see, you found a goldcrest. Seems like it's hurt it's wing. Best put it out it's misery-"
"N-no! Please I didn't mean to hurt it-" I slapped my left hand over my mouth smering the blood into my skin.
I shouldn't have talked back. I knew better than that."You did this? How?"
My father looked at me his dark raven locks swaying slightly, his eyes shone with curiosity."I didn't want to, my hand had a cut on it from training and then the blood moved when I started to cry and-" As usual he cut me off again.
"Kill it." He bent down to my height, meaning he was almost sitting down since I was only nine.
"Kill it?"
"Using what you did to hurt it I want you to kill it."
"But I don't want to- I don't know how." I look towards the snow covered ground, balling my hands into fists still shaking.
"Use your emotions, get angry!" He raised his voice.
I don't want to, but if I don't I'll have to train more. My eyes became glossy with salty tears.I raised my left arm at the bird, I have to I'm sorry.
When I opened my hand but the cut was gone.
I was ready for my father to get angry with me but instead he patted my back with his large hand.
"I'm impressed, your power is finally here. We should show your mother but first let's take this little guy home and fix him up yes?"
He swiftly scooped the goldcrest up from the snow with his left hand and held mine with the other."Come along dear, now you will see why we have been training you so hard."
I dared to let a small smile reach my face.
After a short walk we arived at the place I call home. We didn't live in the village instead we lived in a cottage just outside of it, the woods gave us cover and hid us, mostly.
I let go of my father's hand feeling the cold yet again. Slowly I pulled on the oak door handle and enter.
"Mother? Mother we're home!" I finger combed my brown hair finding a leaf or two within it.
"Ah Kiken you're home. How was training dear?" My parents loved me, I knew they loved me they just didn't physically show it, at least not often.
"Darling she returns home as a hero!" A look of excitement danced across my mothers features, her green eyes glimering.
"You got your ability?"
"That she did, take a look." Opening his fist he showed my mother the mulated bird.
I winced at the sight of it."Oh gods- is it alive?"
"I'm not sure."
"Could- could I try something father? Please?" My parents exchanged a unreadable look.
"Very well, here."
Their eyes shot wide open when I bit into my skin, drawing blood. Moving my bleeding hand over the animal I let a few drops land on it's wing. For that short moment my heart and the world around me stopped.

.Tweet. The sweet song of a goldcrest began as the the bird lifted itself from my fathers hand, it's wing was as good as new. One flap after the other the bird took off. It flew out the window after letting out another gratefull tweet.
Joy and pride filled me.
I fixed it.
Little did I know what the true potential my new power really possessed.
