I've never been good at making friends. Whenever I'm faced with social situations, I tend to freeze up, and stutter, or say incredibly awkward things. However—someway or another—I managed to make just one friend; and that's all I needed; that's all I need.

"Gon, please, just try to think this through!" I exclaimed, gripping his shoulder firmly. "So many things can go wrong!"

"Okay, okay. There's a solution to that, you know that, right?" He faced me, looking at me in the eye. I met his gaze with starry eyes.

"What—What's the solution?" I pursed my lips, looking at him hopefully.

"We simply don't get hurt." He winked. I sighed heavily in exasperation. Contrastingly, my heart rate accelerating greatly. "You trust me, don't you?"

Gon is dangerous. He's careless and seriously reckless, but he's never broken a promise; which is something he definitely deserves credit for—unfortunately.

"Yes." I nodded reluctantly. "I trust you."

He snickered, grabbing hold of my hand gently. It's always the minor things like this that throw my mind into a blur. It's almost unfair the way he affects me, but he does and I never attempt to change things; I don't even really know if I want to. It's as if he knows the little things he does make me fall in love with him all over again.

He hopped into the driver's seat of his borrowed, electric blue sports car and patted the passengers seat, telling me to hop in with him. I pursed my lips and sucked in a breath before sitting down in the seat and buckling my seat belt.

"Gon, seat belt." I instructed calmly.

"I don't need it, I'll be safe." He responded and I glared.

"It wasn't a question. Put your seat belt on." I demanded with furrowed brows.

"Okay, fine; only for you." He chuckled, grabbing hold of my hand again.

My face grew hot—mostly with embarrassment—as he brushed his thumb across the surface of my hand, giving me a sense of reassurance. He smiled at me, but it quickly faded as he noticed how displeased I looked.

"Hey," He started. "It'll be just fine. I promise I'll be safe. I would never let anything bad happen to you, okay?"

"Yeah," I hummed. "Okay."

His friends in other brightly colored sports cars pulled up on either sides of us, revving their engines, ready to race. I can't believe I somehow got myself caught up in Gon's shenanigans. Don't I always?

Gon revved his engine in response, all of them shouting at each other excitedly. Then, one of his friend's girlfriend started the countdown up at the front. As much as I wanted to hold Gon's hand, he needed both hands in the ready to keep us safe.

Once the girl reached one, we all sped off. The loud sound of revving engines defended me and the bright colors on either side of us blinded me. I felt so helpless and vulnerable. I clutched my seat belt tight and glanced over at Gon a few times, making sure he was doing alright and, sure enough, he was thrilled.

"Woohoo!" He shouted over all the noise. "This is awesome!"

Watching him smile and laugh and be so genuinely happy made me feel the same. My frown turned to a smile, then to a laugh. I slowly let go of the seat belt and laughed, Gon looked over at me briefly with a smile before focusing on the road again.

"Woohoo!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, laughing and smiling like no tomorrow.

Approaching the turn, Gon turned the wheel quick and we made a fast and sharp turn. I'll admit, the turn made me a bit nervous, but it was absolutely exhilarating; I really did love it. Being in love with him and the feeling and experiencing something so new and rare made me feel on top of the world. It felt as if the rest of the world melted away: the race, his friends, the road. It was just us; me and him, him and I; just the two of us.
