The sun was setting on the horizon as two boys sat beneath the large oak tree that had been the family tree for generations, one leaning on the other's shoulder. It was peaceful.

Tommy smiled as he watched the sunset, "Wilbur, I want to explore the world," the boy declared.

Wilbur snapped out of his thoughts as his brother spoke, turning to look at Tommy.

"Where'd that come from?" Wilbur questioned, surprised by the sudden statement. Tommy just shrugged.

"I've always wanted to, but I think I'm ready to actually go." Wilbur considered the boy's words. Tommy had always had a longing for adventure, Wilbur knew that, but what surprised him is the timing. He sighed internally, this might not go well.

"What kind of adventures do you want to do?" He asks, maybe he could do this.

"Uhh.. All of them?" Wilbur chuckled, shaking his head.

"Tommy you've gotta be more specific than that."

Tommy sighed looking up as he thought, "Well, I want to see the world. I want to set out and not just see the local villages, but new things each day, every day could be a new adventure. I want to find things nobody has seen before. I want to have once-in-a-lifetime moments. I want it all." Wilbur smiled, Tommy really dreams big, but he's not sure if he can help Tommy fulfil this dream.

   "Then why don't you?"

Tommy looked back at Wilbur, "because I'm waiting for you."

Wilbur felt as if his heart would burst, "Awww Tommyyy.."

Tommy glared at him, "No, no, no, no, shut up Wilby."

"Did you just call me Wilby?"

Tommy's eyes went wide, "No, no! No, I did not," he tried to defend himself.

"Awwwwww Tommyyyyyy, you can call me Wilby," Wilbur said, smiling at the boy.

Tommy just leaned into Wilbur, feigning anger. His heart is definitely going to burst.

After a while of silence, Tommy had forgotten he was 'mad' and began chatting with Wilbur again. He turned looked up at his brother.

"So when are we going adventuring?" Tommy asked.

Wilbur laughed, "Tommy the sun is literally setting, we can't go just yet."

"Aw, come on man! Please? I want to see the world, Wilbur."

"That sounds fun Toms, another day though, I'm quite tired," Wilbur said gently. Tommy nodded.

"Alright, soon though, right?" Tommy pressed. Wilbur laughed at his eagerness, "yes, Tommy, soon." Tommy smiled with satisfaction.

It grew dark quickly, Tommy passing out against Wilbur's side not long after. Wilbur sat there with his sleeping brother for a while after dark, enjoying the sounds of the peaceful night as he got lost in his thoughts. The wind blows gently past the boys, carrying the faint smell of the pansies planted along the edge of the forest. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes as he did so.

He hoped he didn't have to break the boy's heart so soon, or at the very least, that Tommy would be able to get along without him there. He didn't have forever, he wished he had more time, but he knew that was impossible. At the very least, he hoped Tommy wouldn't throw away his dreams.

I'm so sorry this chapter was so short, I didn't realize how short it might end being with how small the outline was. Just bear with me here, some future chapters' outlines in my notes were as big as this chapter is all written out, so expect more!

Chapter 2 might be small as well, but the outline gives me more room to work with, so I should be able to wiggle in more details and fun stuff :D

After that we've got the bigger chapters though!
