Your life will never be the same.
Annabeth still can't believe what just happened. She walks towards the house, twists the key and pushes the door open. She always makes this mistake. Sally said that she would get it fixed but she keeps saving it for later. She says that the door is old, like her, and if she doesn't need any fixing, neither does the door.
Sally doesn't need any fixing but Annabeth sure does.
Annabeth walks towards the couch. Still in shock, she drops onto the couch. She stares at the ground, thinking about what just happened.
Your life has changed. For worse.
Percy comes down, Estelle in his arms. Smiling he says, "Hey Annabeth! How was the walk?" Right. The "walk". I fake a smile and reply, "Great! How was Estelle?" "Oh, she slept like a baby! She only just woke up." He makes his way down, and Estelle extends her arms out to Annabeth. Percy sits down next to her, and hands over Estelle. Estelle grins and puts her hand on Annabeth's face. It's hard not to love her.
Love them while you can. You don't have much time.
No. Shut the voices out, Annabeth. Percy notices something is wrong. "Are you ok Annabeth?" She fakes a smile again, "Yeah! Of course, I'm ok! Why wouldn't I be?" "You just seem... different." "I'm fine!" Percy slowly grins again after seeing Annabeth's smile. "Ok great! Do you wanna make some... blue cupcakes?" Annabeth can't help but smile. For real. Not just a fake smile she threw on when he came down. He makes me feel this way. He makes me smile when I want to cry.
Too bad I won't be able to feel this way much longer.
"Ok fine. But I'm going to crack the eggs!" "Ugh. Fine!" Annabeth gets out the recipe and Percy gets the ingredients. They mix everything up and get it in the oven. She turns back to Estelle who was watching them with awe the entire time. Estelle and Annabeth make eye contact and Estelle yells, "Peek-a-boo!" Annabeth smiles and puts her hand in front of her face. Suddenly, she pulls her hand away and yells, "Peek-a-boo!" Estelle erupts into laughter.
This could be the last time I ever play peek-a-boo with her.
Percy looks at her. His sea-green eyes seem to look into her soul.
How can I say goodbye to him?
This was the breaking point. Tears stream down Annabeth's face. Percy is shocked and starts hugging Annabeth. "Whoa whoa whoa! What's wrong?" "Percy. I love you so much." Percy looks at Annabeth with concern. "Annabeth, I love you too. What's going on with you?" "Percy." She almost can't say it. She knows what will happen when she does. He will be broken. She just wants to laugh and say that it was a joke but it's not. She knows it's not. She can't believe it's not. She finally summons all the courage she has and says "I'm dying." Percy just stares at her, speechless. "What?" "I have cystic fibrosis. My lungs don't work. I won't live past 25. I'm going to die. I don't want to die, Percy." At that moment, they both cry and hug each other. Percy is just like what Annabeth thought he would be; broken. And so is she. How can she leave him? Estelle? Sally? Paul? Her family? Her friends? She can't. She just can't. They squeeze each other as if they will never see each other again. She doesn't want to think about when that actually happens.
You could stop breathing at any time. You could die at any time. You might never see Percy again.
No. Annabeth shut out the voices. At that moment, she hugged Percy as tight as she could. She never wanted to let go.
Hey guys! Hope you liked the story!
P.S the back story behind the title is that Purple Ribbons is kind of like the symbol of Cystic Fibrosis.
