Jessie was at school.
Jessie saw Mark bulling another kid, Tim.
Jessie went to Mark and said,

"Why are you bullying Tim?"

and Mark said,

"Because my father hits me. I have to take out my aggressions on someone."

Jessie went to Mark's father, Jeff.
Jessie said to Jeff,

"Why are you hitting your son?"

and Jeff said,

"Because my boss pays me too little money, and I'm scared and frustrated with my situation. This makes me angry, so I hit Mark."

Jessie went to Jeff's Boss, Henry.
Jessie said to Henry,

"Why don't you pay your workers more money? They worry about it all the time."

and Henry said,

"Because if I paid my workers more, the company would make less profit. If the company made less profit, my boss would fire me."

Jessie went to Henry's boss, John.
Jessie said to John,

"Why is profit more important to you than whether your workers are paid fairly?"

and John said,

"If we paid our workers better, we couldn't pay back the loan the bank gave us."

Jessie went to the boss of the bank, Stuart.
Jessie said to Stuart,

"Why don't you cancel the loan you gave to John's company? They are a successful business, and they could pay their workers better if they didn't have to worry about the loan."

and Stuart said,

"But then we wouldn't have made a profit."

Jessie said,

"But you made a profit already. Plus, John and his workers contribute to society. Isn't that profit enough?"

and Stuart said,

"Profit for society, maybe. But no profit for us. If we take less money than our competition, they will pull ahead of us, and we will become irrelevant. That's just how it is."

Jessie went home.
Jessie was in his room, lying on the bed.
Jessie said to the ceiling,

"I just wanted to be a good person. Why does it seem like, if I want to solve a problem, I need to fix the world?"
