Prologue

The wind howls outside my window. I look outside and see the orange papery leaves being swept away across the rough desert-like sand, to the end of our land where nothing starts. There is nothing out there except sheep, and more sand. There is one tree on our land and it is bigger than anything I have ever seen before. I chase after him, down the stairs and out into the heat of the day, but he is being blown by the wind across our land and soon will be off it. I start to run back to the house, but I can’t move because I am being blown so hard. I know the end of the world is close, I can feel it. I manage to slowly get back to my house, and desperately search for my cat. Where is he? I have to find him; he can’t be blown away too. He can’t die. I find him, cowering against the wall and pick him up, cradle him in my arms and kiss him. I hold him close to me, but the wind just gets harder and I cannot hold on for any longer. Everything i love is gone. I get swept backwards, and that is when I wake up…
