A/N I actually did a little research on how to read tarot cards before writing this so I hope it's somewhat accurate. Obviously I don't know Amy's style so I picked a general spread layout.
This also takes place a day after Sonic Generations, 'cause the Time-Eater makes this make a lotta sense, AT LEAST TO ME-
Enjoy!
"And you're sure they're correct?" a young, high-pitched voice inquired.
"Of course they are! After all, these cards never lie!" an older–but still feminine–voice replied.
The latter voice belonged to Amy Rose, who sat outside a porch with Cream the Rabbit and Cheese. After the crazy fiasco during Sonic's birthday party with that Time-Monster thingy, the girls just wanted to relax with each other with tea and cookies. To pass the time, Amy began introducing Cream to her fortune-telling. In her hand was a deck of peculiar cards, which she held out in a fan in front of her face, partially hiding it from view.
"Whose fortunes have you told?" asked Cream, blinking her large, innocent brown eyes.
"Chao!" Cheese cheered, clapping his tiny hands in curiosity.
"Anyone who asks, really!" Amy admitted, thinking. Sometimes she'd set up a little booth during carnivals or fairs and call it "Rose's Readings". "I try to get Sonic to try his fortune but he never wants to. But I guess I understand, he's not one to know what happens next, he's one to make his future...the way he believes is right..." Amy commented tenderly, a fond smile appearing on her face at the thought of her blue hero. Absent-mindedly, the hedgehog shuffled her purple and gold cards and laid out her Celtic-Cross spread on the tea table out of habit. Amy had done this so often, her fingers knew exactly how to handle it. Cream and Cheese looked on in awe as they watched the fortune layout take shape. One by one she piled the cards in her cross shape and laid down the last one in the center.
But something wasn't right. Sure the cards differ every time, because circumstances never stay the same, but...well...her distant future card...
It had always shown her "Lovers" card. And Amy remembered clearly that day on Little Planet where her immediate present card showed her "Meeting" card, one that represents meeting some person important in your life. And the only person she met that day was Sonic the Hedgehog. Well there was Eggman and Metal Sonic, but Amy digressed that possibility completely; that would just feel positively awkward.
This time, it showed a different card, but Amy didn't bother to read it. She stood up with her hands placed on the table with a slightly frazzled expression.
Cream noted this and clasped her hands together worriedly. "What's wrong, Miss Amy?" the child asked.
"I...uh...um...must've messed up..." Amy reassured herself, but it didn't sink in deep. Because Amy knew you can't just "mess up". Shuffling her cards once more, Amy rearranged them without opening her eyes, just out of fear. She delayed opening her eyes, but nevertheless did.
And it was the exact same as before.
Cream didn't have an inkling of a clue of what was going on, all she knew was that the next thing that happened was her friend shot up from her seat and ran inside the house, leaving her cards behind flying through the air. Because of her manners, the rabbit gathered all the cards into a neat little deck and scurried after the pink hedgehog.
She found her target criss-crossed on the floor rocking back and forth, lost in thought.
"Miss Amy, please tell me what's the matter!" Cream pleaded, kneeling next to her. She placed the deck in front of Amy's shiny, striped boots. She merely glanced at them and a haze swept over the girl's jade-green eyes again. Cream sighed –almost inaudibly– and only continued to sit next Amy. Finally Amy took a big inhale.
