"You will have a test on Friday on everything we have covered so far." Mrs Austen trilled. The whole class groaned and I slumped over in my chair. I was currently sat at the back of the class in Drama. This was one of my favourite classes not only because I was good at it, but because I shared it with both Avril and Devin. Avril was seated to my right and Devin was a few rows ahead of me.
Devin had called me on Monday night, Tuesday night and last night and we had both stayed up till 4, talking. In 3 nights I had only gotten a total of 9 hours of sleep and I was exhausted.
"What's up with you?" Avril hissed.
"What?" I mumbled sleepily.
"You look dog tired."
"That's because I fucking am." I hissed.
"I forgot tired Maliha is feisty." She smirked. I ignored her and buried my face into my folded arms.
Suddenly I felt a crumpled ball of paper hit my head. I looked up to see Devin smirking at me from his seat and I unscrewed the ball.
You look tired, kitten
I shot him a no-shit-sherlock look and picked up my pen.
Now whose fault would that be?
I threw the note back and he smiled as he read it.
Wanna meet up at lunch?
Devin and I had never sat together at lunch due to our very different friend groups. It would be exciting to talk to him openly at school.
Where? I replied.
Parking lot.
My lips twisted into a smile. Maybe he'd ditch with me? It seemed that every teenage girl on earth had ditched school to hang out with a boy, but I hadn't.
Sure
The rest of class carried on with Mrs Austen revising some of the work we had learnt, so we would be prepared for our test. Apparently it counted a lot towards our final mark, including the grade we received for our performance throughout the semester.
When the bell rang everyone shot out of their seats and bolted towards the door. I headed towards my locker to dump my books, but Avril stopped me.
"Where are you going? The cafeteria is this way." She said motioning in the opposite direction.
"I'm going to meet Devin. I'll catch up with you later." I promised.
Avril rolled her eyes, "Okay, but remember to talk to him and not attack him with your tongue." She warned.
Recently I had discussed with Avril another sort of 'issue' I had noticed. Devin and I always seemed to be kissing but never actually talking about our problems. My list was still shoved into my bag, still unread and undealt with. The first issue I had mentally crossed out. The idea that Devin was using me for sex was completely ludicrous. The second one, Diya, was less of an issue because Devin had already spoken to Uncle Doug about breaking up with her. He hadn't done it as yet, but I knew he was going to. The third issue which was me not being able to commit, was slowly being worked on. Devin didn't understand how scared I was to be in a serious relationship with someone and I had to explain that to him. The fourth problem was my dad. I was sure Devin had a very good idea what an asshole my dad was since Diya had probably told him, but the thing was if Devin and I were to be in a relationship how would I tell my father?
If we sorted all of that out, then the final issue would've solved itself. The hallways were empty as all the seniors and juniors were in the cafeteria and everyone else was in class. I lazily slung my bag around one shoulder as I strolled out of the school building and into the open air. The sun was beating down gold and bright, but the air was chilly. Winter was definitely on its way. I hugged my jacket close to my body as the cold air nipped at my exposed legs. I was dressed in a plaid flared skirt with a lace black top and Devin's black leather jacket. I felt extra grunge with a pair of doc martens on and my eye makeup done bold and black.
