Chapter One

I knelt behind a bush, peeping through leaves using binoculars. I saw them.

Who are they? My brother and a girl I know he has a crush on. He told me. And, bring the fabulous sister I am, I am stalking- wait, no, that sounds weird, how about observing- her so I can report back to headquarters- AKA my room, where I keep all my files, pictures, ship name lists, ship songs... Basically my Matchmaker HQ.

I see her screw her face up. My brother, Henry, laughs, and I facepalm. No, just no. She does not want to be laughed at! I try using my telepathic twin-thinking, but it fails. Yet, it fails every time. I sigh as his crush, Kayla, lifts her hand and slaps him. Classic response. Ooh, a full on bitch-slap too!

He rubs his cheek as she spins on her heel and walks away. I sigh, and rub my temples. I spent hours coaching him about what pick up lines to use and not use, when to laugh and not laugh, when to cry or not cry, when to move in for a hug or ask her- or him, I don't judge- out.

I sat with my head on my knees, sobbing quietly. There was a rustle and I glance up. My best friend- and matchmaking assistant- Hannah, came over, dressed in the same camouflaged outfit. Hey, we where experts here- not that we had actually succeded before.

We shake our heads in sync. No such luck this time, I speak in sign language to her. One, Kayla may be around, and two, she's deaf. She has a hearing aid, and her family is investing in a bionic ear- why they didn't do that earlier, I don't know why- so she may be able to hear soon. She shakes her head, red curls bouncing.

She speaks back, hands moving professionally. I think we should just give up, Eve she sighs- a weird kind of sound, as she can only hear a little- the aids aren't very good- for good measure. I stare at her like she'd grown another head. She giggles silently, holding a hand up to her mouth. Her shoulders shake, and I slap her arm playfully. Oh, shush, I signal her, but she just shakes her head stubbornly and pouts. We high five each other, and I know-'we both know- exactly why we are friends.

We go our separate ways, and I head to my den. I place my butt on the plushy chair with an exasperated sigh. I ponder briefly on getting a chocolate milkshake but decide I honestly can't be bothered getting up. I could stay here, parked in my chair, for eternity. I look at my papers blankly. Then, I jump up, and do a victory dance. I have an idea. Just a splash of cunning, the help of the ever-handy love hormone oxytocin, a dozen red roses and a voice changer will do wonders!

I clap my hands in glee. Now, I have to prepare for project GHT- Get Heyla Together. I grab my iPad, and press the Skype button. I clicked on Hannah's user, and it rang only for a split second before her familiar, freckled face popped up, grinning. She waved.

Hi, I signalled. She looked excited. What about?
I have news, She signalled.
Go on
I'm getting my bionic ear soon!
Oh my freaking gosh! I'm squealing!
Ha ha ha.
Shut up!
No.
You little...!
I laugh, and she does her weird giggle.
I have news too
What?
I explain Project GHT to her, and she claps at my genius.
Meet in five. At Joan's she signals. I nod, and finish the call. Hopping up, I walk past Mum and grab my bag, slinging it over one shoulder. It contains all of my important fangirl crap and stuff. I borrow some of Henry's cash- hey, his date, he pays. I slip out the door, and jog down the street to Joan's Cafe'. I throw open the door- but Joan is used to my antics. She just laughs and shakes her head.

I sit at a booth, and the door flies open, Hannah charging in. She sees me and waves, skipping over, and sitting across from me. We start to chat via our hands.

Me: So, while Joan is getting us the usual- she grins, knowing her hot chocolate was coming- let's recap. So, first we go to the florist- we know she likes good old red roses, so we buy some. We know she's into being called by the guy who gave her the roses- that's all cool. Then, we whip Henry into shape, and viola! We have Heyla happily together!

Hannah: Perfection, deary, perfection! How did we find sign language for Heyla again?

Me: We made it up

She grins, and I giggle.

After we finish at the cafe, we walk to the florist, wind almost blowing us away. We buy the roses, and write on the card:

Dear Kayla,
I think you're the most beautiful creature to ever walk the earth. I would like to know if you would go out with me? I wish I could ask you in person... Just I'm terribly shy and I feel unworthy of your presence.
Love,
Henry xxx

We grin at each other, and drop the roses at the door, and ring the doorbell. We scuffle away, and hide. Kayla picks up the roses, and gasps in joy. She twirls back into the house. I have a feeling it will be yes. I text my brother.

Me; Hi. Just got you a date
Him: Huh?
Me: You're friendly Cupid services (Me and Hannah) just possibly got you a date with Kayla.
Him: OH MY GOD THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Me: Don't you dare screw up!

I turn my phone off, and Hannah and I high five each other again. We might finally have claimed victory.

AN: Sorry if that seemed to drag, and sorry if it's a bit short.
Please tell me what you think of it- constructive criticism is appreciated. I have thin skin, but time to toughen up a bit.
Please ...
