"Come on, George! You're so slow!" A dark-haired boy ran a couple yards ahead of George as the brunette tried to keep up. His friend had always been a bit faster than George, but George didn't mind, the only thing he did mind was how the younger boy always held it above his head.
"You know I'm not as fast as you, idiot!" George gasped out in annoyance, his breath beginning to quicken from the run. The raven headed boy only laughed and slowed down slightly so that George could catch up. The two scanned the streets before them as they traveled down the blocks on their way to school.
It was their last year at school, them both being seniors, and George couldn't say he was going to miss it. The two boys never really made too many friends there, George was a bit socially awkward, but he couldn't really say the same about his best friend. Sometimes George felt that he himself was the reason his friend was held back from making too many friends, as his best friend always made sure George wasn't left alone on a bench somewhere from the anxiety of too many people.
The wind whipped through the two young boys hair as they reached the end of the park, only a couple streets away from the school. The two always ran instead of taking the bus, loving the rush of adrenaline they received from it. George smiled up at the sun as they paused for a breather, the ravenette turning to grin at George, "You ready?" He started, and George nodded, "Race ya then!" The boy shouted and took off full sprint for the far off school.
George groaned, annoyed at the fact he didn't have a head start and that his friend was faster than him anyway. But nevertheless, he straightened and ran after his friend, who was yards ahead.
The two had to take a few turns as they ran, and George lost sight of the boy on his way. He huffed, of course he made it there before me, he thought to himself, slowing to a walk as he reached the highschool.
George furrowed his eyebrows as he walked up to the front doors, there was no sight of his friend. That's weird, the ravenette was always waiting for him after he had won, usually sitting on the steps with an arm supporting his chin and pretending like he had been waiting forever, much to the chagrin of George.
George waved away his concerns and stepped into the building, maybe I actually won for once, he thought as he searched the nearby halls, but how did I pass him without noticing? George returned back outside and sat on the steps, his friend would be here by now, something was definitely wrong.
15 minutes passed, the bell had rung and George had ignored the gazes of the few late curious students as they passed him on the steps. He tried to keep his panic under control, but he couldn't stop the panic from bubbling over. He stood and rushed into the school and into the front office. A teacher's head popped up as he entered and smiled. George placed his hands on the front desk and took a deep breath to calm himself, not that it helped. "So I was on my way here with my friend, and we raced here. But he still hasn't got here yet, and he is always here before me. Something must have happened to him." George breathed out and the teacher's smile faded as she thought.
"What's his name?" She asked and reached for a pen and notepad. George told her and she nodded to him, saying he could go to class and she would get back to him as soon as they found out anything, but George couldn't focus the entire school day.
He didn't eat anything at lunch, instead he sat on the front steps of the school and prayed that his only friend was okay, but minutes turned into hours and the last bell of the day would ring soon.
