You've always hated storms for as long as you could remember. The funny thing is, you live somewhere damp and stormy. But, Josh, your boyfriend, has always been there to help you through thick and thin.
"I just got an amber alert, there's going to be a severe storm," you turn over to look at Josh. He looks back at you and tilts his head with a little frown.
"Do you want me to get a blanket and we can cuddle up on the sofa?" he stands up already walking to grab a blanket even though you haven't answered.
"Yes, I would love that," you say with a smile on your face.
Josh picks out your favourite blanket, the one he got you for Christmas last year. While he walks over towards you, a flash of Christmas memories come back to you. You can almost smell the gingerbread and hear the holiday music. You both danced in the kitchen for hours on end; remembering this makes you smile.
"What's that smile for?" Josh says with a slight giggle.
Embarrassed you respond, "Oh nothing, don't worry about it."
"If you say so," he smiles. You have the feeling he knows you were thinking about Christmas because of the blanket. He sits next to you and cuddles up. You fold your legs close to your chest and lean into him. He takes the blanket and puts it over the both of you.
Hearing the first crash of thunder, you jump a bit. Josh wraps his arm around you and pulls you closer as if you two weren't already close enough. You feel his hand on your arm as he starts to do the thumb rub that you love. He rubs his thumb back and fourth over your sweater, under the blanket. Smelling his forestry scent, you already feel a bit better about the current conditions.
"It's ok, love, the storm will pass, I'm right here for you," he leans in and kisses your forehead. You've always loved how he smiled before going into a kiss. As he pulls away from the kiss he says softly in a raspy voice, "I love you, always and forever."
You look up at him and see the happiness in his eyes. His eyes have a little sparkle, his cheeks are a bit pink, and he has the sweetest grin. You love him so much and you know it. He's absolutely perfect.
"I love you too, Josh."
