Chrisette sat on the large porch of her home. She was writing her poetry down in a small journal. It was about all the love and affection that she felt for her five sons and the one growing large in her stomach. She heard the squeaky screen door open and close, followed by the pitter patter of small feet as her youngest son waddled over and looked up at her with his big brown eyes. He didn't look like his father or like her other sons. He looked like an authentic Hispanic like her father and brothers. She smiled at him lifting him up onto her lap.
"Hey there big boy" She smiled.
"Mommy" he squealed biting his fingers. He turned his head as his older brothers leaped off of the porch and chased each other around in the yard. He quickly slid from her lap and followed. He was only one years old, his birthday being two months ago.
"Horace be careful of Asa" She called from her seat. Her husband came outside. He walked right over to her and took her hands, made her stand up and go over to the porch swing. He intertwined her small fingers into his large ones. He pressed his forehead against hers, looking into her big brown eyes.
"I love you so much Chris" Jay said.
"I love you too Jay" She smiled giving him a gentle kiss. The upbeat song of the ice cream truck cascaded through the neighborhood.
"Mommy" Horace cried loudly. He raced over, followed closely by a loud parade of little brothers. “Can we have ice cream?”
“I don’t know. Jay what do you think?”
“As long as you don’t bounce all over the house after, Alright.” The truck slowed down in front of the house that usually held his biggest customers. Jay dug in his pocket looking for 10 dollars to spend on his family as he held his wife hand and followed his sons out to the Ice-Cream truck. Jay lifted Horace up to see the man inside of the truck.
"Hey Horace how you been" The man smiled.
"Hi Mr. Leo" Horace cried loudly. Jay put him down, before dapping Leo up.
"Hey Leo"
"What's good Jay." Leo smiled as Chrisette walked up to the window. "Hey Chrisette looking as beautiful as ever. How's baby number six doin'?"
“It feels like he's playing kickball in there. He's due any day now." Chrisette smiled.
“Well you look like you’re ready for that last baby boy.” Leo said as began grabbing the family’s usual orders of ice cream.
“Yup and Leo.” Chrisette called to him from the window as he dug down in the cooler looking for her favorite ice cream.
“Yea Ms. Chrissy.” He responded as stopped digging and looked up from what he was doing.
“I think I want strawberry shortcake Popsicle, the baby is craving it.” She said smiling as she watched him pick up the ice cream and walk back to the front of the truck with the ice cream.
“Umm thank you Leo you are amazing.” Chrisette smiled at Leo as he handed her the ice cream and then handed them to her surrounding boys.
“Aight Leo how much do I owe.” Jay said as held his ice cream cone.
“6.00 dollars my man, Mama's ice cream here is on the house.” he said as he winked at Chrisette and took the 10 from Jay and gave his change.
“Alright ya’ll, see you tomorrow or whenever.” He said as he dapped up Jay and he kissed Chrisette cheek.
“Bye.” The family called back in unison as they headed back to the porch and the yard. Jay and Chrisette walked back to the porch hand in hand smiling at the boys.
“Jay’s Boys.” Chrisette whispered to Jay as he kissed her cheek and smiled and responded,
“Jay’s Boys.”
