The whole town was getting ready for Antonio's gift ceremony. Casita was full of noise and people scrambling to get everything perfect. Dolores could barely hear herself think, not like she could hear herself think on a normal day. She tried her best to stay calm and fought the urge to cover her ears and go to her room. But this was for her hermano pequeño, so she was able to pull through.
Dolores walked toward the kitchen with Ables close behind, holding some cloth and flowers. She noticed her abuela stopped right at the door. "What are you doing?" She asked with a supper confused look on her face. " Uh they were just asking about the family-" Mirabel started before she was cut off by a small village girl. " SHE WAS ABOUT TK TELL US ABOUT HER SUPER AWSOME GIFT!!" Delores silently winced at the girls loud voice. "Oh, Mirabel didn't get one" Dolores tried to hide the sliver of jealousy in her voice.
'Oh what I would give to have no gift' she thought as she walked away. ' Mirabel might wish she got a gift, but I wish I didn't have mine. Imagine being able to think without hearing what everyone else is saying, and not having to plug your ears at a party, or not hearing everyone say that she knows everyone's dirt. What they don't get is just because you hear something doesn't mean you can tell people. I know so much but I have to keep them in so people don't get mad at me.'Later that day:
The party was in full swing, people talking and eating. Children alighting and running around with sparklers. It was loud and chaotic, dolores was really trying to stick with the family image of being perfect but she could feel a headache coming on. She would get headaches often but mostly deal with them privately. Once Antonio got his gift the real party began, everyone we dancing and having a good time in his room. Where the bird were chirping and the were so many noises.
I wanted to be there for him but my head was killing me, usually I can pull through. I try to slip thought the crowds of people to get to my room. I could feel panic rising in my stomach, ugh I felt like I was gonna pass out. She kept her head down, trying to focus and block out some of the noise, the Dolores bumped into someone." Oh, lo siento." She looked up to see Isabella's boyfriend, Mariano. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention" she started to rub her temples ' I can't remember the last time my head hurt this bad'
Mariano looked at her with a mix of concern and confusion. " Are you ok?" He asked, just then the fireworks went off. Dolores could take it, she quickly covered her ears' ugh this was the works part' once that firework ended she was able to answer. "Uh yeah, I just need to go, excuse me" she pushed past him and headed up to her room. She walked quietly to make sure no one Saw her, casita helped which she was thankful for. Her room was full of calming sounds they were quiet enough so only she could hear them but that didn't stop the noise from coming.
She lays on her bed and puts her pillow over her head, it didn't block out the noise of the fireworks or the laughter of people. Dolores tried to fall asleep to the sound of people talking but she just tossed and turned. But the party died down and she was able sleep until something woke her.Spanish vocabulary:
