"Join me, and together, we'll build our new Lego Deathstar."

"No way, that's awesome, how many pieces?" I turned around at see my best friend holding a small Lego Jedi.

"3,803," he said.

"That's insane," I said, putting some books back into my locker.

The first bell of the day rang as soon as I shut the door. I walked beside Ned through the hallways smelling of unhygienic teenagers and brownies at the bake sale stand down the hall. I might get one.

"Did you hear about the new kids from London?" I heard someone whisper beside me. I stopped Ned to eavesdrop on the two girls. "The blonde's a senior and the brunette is a sophomore."

"I heard they were from Scotland," the other girl said. "The brunette one is kind of weird. Did you see the keychain on her backpack?"

"No, what is it?"

"It's a green eye." The girl holds her books tighter to her chest. "I walked past her from behind and it was like it was following me."

"That's so weird."

The girls looked away from each other when the token foreign exchange student, Joshua, walked past. I watched their eyes look him up and down while he was just trying to buy a brownie from the bake sale. It's times like these I'm glad I'm invisible at school.

The late bell rung and I looked around for Ned, but he had already left. I cursed under my breath and stalked over to the bake sale since I'm already late. Joshua nodded my way before walking off with his brownie.

"Hi, there." The taller girl chirped. "Would you like to buy a brownie to fund our year here?"

"Oh, are you two the new British students?" I asked, slightly taken aback from the girl's accent.

"Yes." The girl nodded. "I'm Vanessa, but my friends call me Van." She gestures to the shorter girl standing beside her. "This is my best friend, Eliza. We call her Eli."

"It's nice to meet you." I smiled at Eliza. She pressed her lips together and smiled, but she didn't say anything. "Oh, right, I want a brownie. How much?"

"One d-"

"Take it." Eliza holds one out. Her eyes stay on me until I take the brownie from her. "We have enough money for today and if we get this much every day, we'll be good. You can have it."

"Well, I gotta pay for it." I set the brownie on the table and pulled out my wallet. Eliza watched me, chewing her lip. Her eyes flicked between me and my wallet. "Shit, I don't even have $.50."

"It's really no problem," said Van.

"No, I can't take it, I'm sorry." I hurried away before they could make any further protests.

"Mr. Parker, you're late." I barely even got the door open.

"Sorry, sir."

I took my seat and got my book out. I looked around to see many people with brownies and I silently wished I had one, too. I'll just remember to ask May for some cash tomorrow.

After school, I suited up and went on patrol. It was so boring. There was no crime, even in the alleys. I tried talking to Happy, but he wanted nothing to do with me. It was when I was getting ready to go home that something happened.

I heard glass rattling and looked down below me to see someone in all black taking different things out of a trash bag. I took a closer look to see if they were doing anything wrong, then I saw the money maker. The person pulled out one of the $3,000 dollar antiques recently stolen from the museum.

"Hey, that's illegal to have in your possession!"

The perp flinched when I jumped down to see their face, but they had a mask covering their mouth and nose. It was a girl. Her eyes swirled like green resin going in a circle. She seemed to have panicked for a second before breaking into a sprint toward the subway.

"Oh no, you don't!"

I chased after her, dodging honking cars and bicycles zipping past. I was able to make it to the subway before her and I blocked off the entrance. She cut the corner down the alley a few yards away. I sighed and chased her down there, too.

Her chest moved up and down when I cornered her against the wall. My hands moved to either side of her head to cage her in. I looked into her eyes and realized this is way bigger than what I thought. Her eyes were brown.

"Give me the antiques and I'll let you go until I see you again," I said. "Then I'll turn you in."

I barely missed the hint of mischief in her eyes before she dropped the antiques on my foot. I yelped and grabbed my sore foot, accidentally giving her time to jump a few feet in the air and catch a pipe above her head. She kicked me in the face, knocking me back. I swear I heard her laugh when she made her way to the roof of the building.

I couldn't stop the smile that spread across my throbbing face. The whole thing came back to me and I realized I got the antiques. I leaned over to pick up the garbage bag, but all of the glass in there was broken.

"Oh man, I'm not reporting this." I put the bag back and left the alley.

My senses went off, telling me to go to the right, so without thought, I shot a web and swung where my senses were telling me. I didn't understand why I was supposed to be here until I seen the girl running across the roof of a building. I ran by her, wanting to catch her when she least expected. I took the chance when she jumped down onto a car, then on the hot pavement.

I grabbed her by the biceps and held her against my chest. "Woah, I got you now," I said.

"You did." She sighed and relaxed into my hold. "You're really determined to get what you want."

"I try to be." I shrugged. "I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."

"Not for long."

"What-"

Her hand moved to my temple and I completely forgot what I was doing. I let go of her and backed away. She held her hand out towards me, so the only thing I knew to do was shake it.

"I don't want to fight you," I said. "I wanna get out of here and fight someone else. I don't even know why I'm fighting you anymore."

The girl smiled and my mouth continued to move against my will, telling her things I would never say to a bad person. I even started to believe what was coming out of my mouth.

"I do not wanna chase you anymore today." She waved her hand. I repeated her, backing away. "I'll leave you alone for now." I repeated her again and turned away from her to head towards my apartment.

Did I just get Jedi mind tricked?
