Corpse Trials

Chapter Five: Rose's PoV

I feel the grip on my wrist tighten as I began to panic,"Don't scream," I hear it whisper to me it was Alex," The goal is not to die. Be as quiet as possible," I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic,"ok," I replied as a draft came through the hallway goosebumps ran up my arm,"Oh shit." Alex whispered, I see a small light in the distance tunnel,"Rose we need to move come on," he said softly, I began to walk but plowed right into Alex almost falling on him catching myself before I do, a burst of warmth spread through my cheeks,"Other way smart stuff." I heard him mumble,"Ya I figured that out." I said feeling my face turn a deeper crimson, I reach for his hand grabbing it softly he jumped slightly as I did, I began to walk the other way, Alex close behind me,'What the hell do we do here? Do we just wonder? Or what?' My mind wondered for a couple minutes the wind was finally gone, so was the dimmed light. I was lost in thought when loud and annoying beeping sound starting going off slapping me back to my reality, then it quit,'The hell?' I thought to myself."Five people are dead already..." Alex spoke I couldn't tell if he was talking to me or to himself, then it hit me,'Was this actually real? Do people actually die here?' My thoughts raged on,"Wait we can actually die here?" I said, softly and confused, "It is called the Corpse Trials." Alex said, I stopped walking my curiosity getting the better of me, Alex walking straight into me, I held my ground,"Why did you stop?" He asked me confused," I'm not moving until I know what the hell these so called Trials are." I said sorta loud trying to get my point across,"You will find out soon." My patience level was at an all time low,"Not moving till you tell me." I said sternly, Alex sighed tired of my rebellious acts to try to get him to talk,"Rose this is not a thing you ask questions about," I could hear the frustration in his voice,"since you aren't moving." He tightened his grip on my hand, pick me up with ease throwing me on his shoulder, I gasp for air as the contact of his shoulder and my stomach wasn't all to soft,"Then I'll move you." He continued to walk, I groaned,"put me down!" I said softly," You've lost your right to walk." I sighed and looked at the pathway we just came from, the light from earlier showed around the bend,"Hey, Alex the light is back." I told him,"What?" He replied,"The light fro-" I shut my mouth as that light came around the corner, for it was no light but a giant flaming serpent, it was made of complete flames, I tensed up completely as it seemed to know we were in it's path,"You ok?" Alex asked slightly concerned I felt his head turn I could tell he saw the beast, the serpent was as wide at the tunnel but taller than Alex, it let out a blood curling howl.

     Alex took off in a sprint me on his shoulder, The snake eager to keep up. The heat from the flames warmed my face,"Alex run faster!" I yelled, the serpent roared again the heat escalating quickly my eye's burned from the heat, I closed them as I hear Alex panting  I feel him dart to left as me made a turn,"It's a nest," Alex managed to say between breaths,"Huh?" I asked 'A nest what the hell is he talking about?' I thought, as the glow from the beast lit the path where we came,"That's momma." Alex struggled to talk as I figured out what he was saying, that thing was momma, this was her den,"There is a way out right?" I asked, as I feel a bruise forming on my stomach from his rocky stride, I let out a cough,"Not Sure," Alex answered my question, he slowed down to a halt setting me down, he doubled over putting his hands in his knees, I grabbed his hand as the serpent came into view,"Heh, breaks over!" I said grabbing Alex's arm lacing my fingers into his, I began to drag him forward at a quick walking pace, he gasped for air as we continued to walk.
