It all happened one late morning. An apprentice named Bengt Lundberg is walking past the massive ruckus going on at the street market with difficulty. Bengt constantly checks his list of errands, he's struggling to read due to being overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle going on. He only has one task left to complete, buying herbs for his mentor. While looking for the Herb dealer, a specific stand catches his eye. Standing up front is a dark-haired man who looks quite unkempt, is loudly presenting his suspicious-looking witch brooms.
"STEP RIGHT UP, STEP RIGHT UP! THE NEW AND IMPROVED WITCH BROOMS OF LOUIS THAT EVERYONE'S BEEN WAITING FOR IS NOW IN STOCK!!" He yells boldly.
Bengt is giggling at the man's European accent but notices that the rest of the crowd is staring amazedly. He can't quite see what everyone is so impressed by so he starts pushing past the horde of people and finally gets a glimpse. It was a Deblin boy juggling the witch brooms, the young guy looks exhausted, his arms sore from working since sunrise.
Bengt is appalled by the sight of the man taking advantage of the young Deblin, so he decides to construct a plan. He waits for the dark-haired bloke to leave for his lunch break and decides to run behind his stand. He sees the Deblin inside a box devouring a bunch of carrots, he is covered in bruises. He approaches the kid and calms him by removing his cloak to show the boy his face. While holding the outside of the box he pats the kid's head.
"Hey there buddy, I saw how that big mean guy was treating you, are you alright?" He whispers.
"ano yan?" The Deblin looks at Bengt with a confused look.
"Oh, you can't speak English. Uhh..." He fiddles with his fingers not knowing what to do.
But before any of them could say anything, the dark-haired salesman comes back startling the two.
"OI, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING BEHIND MY STAND YOU NOSY BRAT, I'M GONNA CALL THE GUARDS!!" The man yells causing everyone around to stare.
Bengt without thinking picked up the box with the Deblin in it and pushed passed the salesman. He wears his hood again so no one recognizes him and covers the box with his cloak. Many who witnessed what happened were yelling at the apprentice to stop, catching the attention of two guards.
IN THE NAME OF THE BRONZE GUARDS, WE DEMAND YOU GET BACK HERE Both guards shout with their swords in the air.
Bengt keeps on running ignoring the guards and climbs a massive stair of boxes and starts jumping on some of the merchants roof stands one by one with the guards inches behind him. He opens a portal and jumps in it no hesitation leaving the guards dumbfounded. Bengt ends up in a quiet ally way near the market, it was cluttered with empty boxes which hid the two from anyone passing by. The apprentice sits on the ground, out of breath and lightheaded. While catching his breath however he opens the box and finds the Deblin dozing off quietly.
Heh, even in such a chaotic time youre able to just sleep thru it with ease.
