The moon shone bright on the pavement, puddles of rain water glistened brightly. It was 2a.m. and most of the city was asleep. All except two teenagers- Anne and Charlotte. The 14-year old twins lay awake, lying stiffly on their beds staring at the ceiling. "Are you awake?" they asked simultaneously. Giggling quietly, they remained silent. Although she could not see it, Charlotte could tell that Anne had a worried look on her face. Next door, they could hear their parents yelling at each other. They had been quarrel in a lot recently and the girls were hoping that it was nothing serious. After a while, the noise began to die down. All they could hear was,"Shh... The girls *whisper*"
. The girls began to drift off to sleep but after what felt like a few minutes, their alarm clock went off, indicating the start of a new day. The sun had already risen and Charlotte drew the curtains as Anne made their beds. They each brushed their teeth, washed their faces and changed out of their pyjamas. Half an hour later, they were changed and downstairs in the kitchen.
"Good morning girls," Mother said. "good morning mum and dad," the girls replied. Their father was sitting at the dining table sipping his coffee and reading the nnewspaper "Lies, lies, lies," he muttered under his breath. The girls just ignored him, they were used to his complaints about politics and world problems.
"Well, I should be of now," Father sighed, kissing the girls goodbye. Being a doctor, their Father left early in the morning and only came back at 7:00 in the evening. As they heard the roaring of the engine and the car pull out of the driveway, the girls wondered why Father hadn't said goodbye to Mother. They were hoping it had nothing to do with the fight last night.
After a hasty breakfast of toast and orange juice, they bid their mother goodbye and we're out the door. As they walked to school, they discussed the strange behaviour of their Father. However, their conversation was cut short when the girls reached school. Recently, they had moved from Kansas to their current home in LA. It was only their second day in school and they had already made two friends-Megan and Sarah. Megan was nerdy and always got good grades, she wore glasses and braces but had straight, jet black hair and blue eyes. Sarah wore designer clothes and did not do as well in her studies. However, she had strawberry blonde hair and hazel brown eyes. They were total opposites but best friends, just like Charlotte and Anne. Anne was like Megan, nerdy and did not have a good sense of fashion. Charlotte was like Sarah, not very caring about her grades, but very caring about their appearance.
Upon meeting their friends, they linked arms and made their way to their lockers which were right next to each other. As they parted ways to their classes, the twins suddenly felt alone. Without each other or their friends, they felt lonely in the massive hallway of Riverdale high-school.
