If I wanted things to get real with me and Alex, I had to get things moving. Starting with the hardest, coming out as gay.
I needed to start off with my best friend, not James, my dad.
"Like the food, I make the curry sauce differently."
"Yeah it's delicious thank you dad."
"Good"
"Oh, dad?" I said, trying to stay calm.
"Yes?"
"I need to tell you something, something that's quite important. So I figured this out when I was around 13 and I just didn't know how to tell anyone. I thought it would be best if i told you first. So, I'm... Gay."
There was silence for a while before my dad spoke up, I started shaking and panicking.
"Nathaniel, you are my son. I will love you no matter what, I don't care who you are and who you love. You are literally my favorite person in the world and I will always support you."
He brought me into a hug as my eyes filled up with tears. I really needed a hug, and I got it from the best person I could think of.
"So now I know what gender you like, got your eye on someone?"
"Yeah actually."
"I know who it is!" my dad shouted excitedly, "I bet it's that boy who is tutoring you.
I laughed before nodding.
"I love you dad."
"Love you too son."
We talked for hours and I classes that as the best day ever, and knew that I would always remember it as the day my dad was my hero.
