Harrison POV

It's already late afternoon, and my parents are still nowhere in sight. I know they're afraid of me and all, but isn't this a little too far? Hopes of them ever coming back are starting to run low as the sky gets darker, and the stars come out.

Then, I'm caught by surprise by the sound of two small footsteps coming up from behind me. But haven't all the campers already left? I spin around only to be met with nothing.  I freeze for a second before looking down. It's Max.

"Oh! Hello there, Max! Why are you still here?" I ask cheerfully.

"Dunno, Harrison, why are you still here?" He retorts back sarcastically.

"Okay, rude"

"Shut up, Harrison."

Geez

It's been hours since the other campers left, and David's starting to get worried. He joined us outside a while ago so we could share his lantern and a few snacks. Max sat away from us with his bag, staring into the dark, dirt road. A few more hours passed, and an old rickety chevy came creaking down the path.

"So the hag decided to come get me after all." Max mumbled.

"Now Max, that is no way to be talking about your par-..." David starts, but he trails off when the women steps out.

She's short, maybe a foot and a half taller than me. She's almost as scrawny as David, and I can smell the alcohol off her from here.

"Comon' lil' brat," she slurs, leaning against the car for support.

Max is about to take a step when David stops him in his tracks.

"What the hell camp man?" Asks Max as he flinched away from David's hand.

"You are in no condition to be driving,  I can not allow you to take Max home like this." David states in an even tone.

"Who the hell are you to tell me I can't pick up my own son?" She mutters as she stumbles forward.

"My name is David, I am one of the summer camp workers. And you obviously aren't sober, I can't allow you to drive him home."

I shuffle into the shadow of the trees. I don't like this woman. She gives me the creeps.

She grabs Max by his wrist and pulls him towards her.

"Hey! Get your hands off me!" Max yells.

"Shutup brat, the adults are talking." She shouts.

"You shouldn't talk to him athat way Ma'am!" Says David.

"Mind your own danm business!" She slurs.

"Will you at least sober up before you start driving? You could get in an accident with him in the car!

"Leave me alone, I haven't gotten him hurt yet!"

"Liar.." Max mutters under his breath.

"WHAT DID I JUST TELL YOU?" She shouts, kicking him in the chest with one of her high-heeled boots.

"Max!" David yells, rushing to Max.

"Leave the brat be. He needs to learn when it's his turn to speak."
The lady mutters, voice sounding like sandpaper.

Now I really don't like her.

Admist the chaos, I slip off my backpack and shuffle through it until I find what I'm looking for.

Pen, paper, and a flashlight.

I sneak past them to the back of the lady's car. I kneel down and prop the flashlight under my chin. I quickly scrawl down her license plate and scramble back into the woods. I won't need magic to make sure she gets what she deserves.

Lol, cliffhanger, I'm tired
