Once upon a time on a cold winters night, a young queen softly closed the door to the nursery after kissing her two darling angel's good night. Hearing soft footfalls coming down the hall she turned, a smile gracing her features as she saw her husband, the king, tiptoeing towards her.
"Are they asleep?" he whispered in her ear as he drew nearer. The queen nodded so he continued, "Good, we have an urgent visitor. You must come with me at once."
The queen nodded and clutched her husband's hand as they made their way to the drawing room. As they entered, an old woman who was waiting for them by the window turned at once and bowed her head.
"Queen Esmerald, King Audwin. Pleasure to be in your company."
Like whys, the queen dipped a low curtsy. "Sharman, to what do we owe the pleasure. If only you came earlier and you could have seen the little ones before they went to bed."
"Are, yes, Princess Halima and Prince Alistair. Actually, I am here about the children. I was doing a healing and I saw something. A vision. I thought you should know..."
Queen Esmerald and King Audwin sat in shocked silence as the Sharman told them a terrifying tale of loss and pain. On that night they learnt that a great evil would soon be entering the kingdom and, if it found two children living within the palace walls, it will kill one and force the other into slavery for him.
"But," the Sharman continued. "If you give one of your children up, both have a chance of surviving and living a good life. The only problem is, if you purposely give this child away, He will find them and make the poor angel pay. But, if you make it seem like an accident and then remove all evidence of that lost child, He will soon forget and let you go on your merry way."
And with this, the frail, old woman stood, pulled her shawl tighter around her and bid her king and queen good night.
