"i swear. another thought about that salmon daikon outing as a date means you are finally going to commit seppuku." giyuu muttered to himself, sitting alone on a rock in the forest.

suddenly, giyuu felt the sharp prick of eyes set on his back.

"who is it? who's there?" he asked monotonously. when no one replies, he sighed in irritation, turning to look behind him.

his eyes widened, they filled with tears, as he realised who the pair of eyes belonged to.

"konbawa, giyuu." a familiar, warm voice said.

"s-sabito? w-what- how?" giyuu stuttered, unable to form a complete sentence. he felt that blossoming feeling that he always felt when talking to sabito, but it was faint now. it was a fainter version than the blossoming feeling he now felt towards kocho.

sabito just chuckled.

"let's talk, giyuu.. or you could continue being a loner." sabito teased, walking over to sit by a tree.

giyuu was still in shock. he couldn't believe that his deceased best friend was right in front of him, talking to him. tears raced down his face, filled with the emotion that he would never show on his face.

"i'm just joking— who knew you were so sensitive." sabito teased once again, dropping onto the grass, his legs folded.

giyuu hesitantly sat down and joined him, gazing at his peach-haired friend. he was afraid that this would be just a hallucination. his mind tricking him, getting him vulnerable, just to shatter his heart again, to bring his whole world down after being given hope.

"i've been watching you for a while." sabito told him, giving giyuu a grin.
"that's a little.. creepy." giyuu said, softly smiling back.

he thought that he could finally smile once more, now that his best friend and late brother was here.

"about tonight.. what was her name again? kocho?"
"uhh— what about her?" giyuu asked, confused at why sabito was bringing kocho up.

if ghosts can read minds, it gives me more reason to commit seppuku.

don't jinx it, giyuu.

"what do you think of her?" sabito asked after a while.
"well.. she's- why are we talking about this again?"
"no reason." sabito said promptly.

"okay well.. she's.. mean... she's cool... she's.. she-she's pretty.." giyuu mumbled quietly.
"soo, does my best friend have a crush?" sabito questioned, laughing.
"w-what? no... it's not like that.." "definitely not." giyuu said, feeling heat rise up his neck.
"sure." sabito said, turning to smile cheekily at giyuu.

"how are you here?" giyuu asked.
"i'm not."
"..."

──────

giyuu and sabito caught up until sunrise, chatting away happily. giyuu didn't want sabito to leave him once more, he was the only person that he felt he could be himself around.. or so he believed.

it was finally time for giyuu to ask the question he had been preparing himself to ask. "sabito, is this all real? or is it just happening inside my head?"
"of course it's happening inside your head, silly. but why should that mean it's not real?"
(SORRY, HARRY POTTER REFERENCE. I HAD TO.)

"when did you become so confusing?" giyuu stated, eyebrows pinched together.

sabito chuckled.

"well, it's time for me to leave."
"what- wait.."

of course he has to leave. he can't stay with me forever.

"giyuu, remember i'll always be by your side. and be brave! tell kocho about your feelings. if you're up for a challenge, you could even.. kiss her!" sabito winked.

sabito's words put comfort to giyuu. he would be with him, no matter what. watching over him like a guardian angel, until the younger joined his companion up above.

"sayōnara." sabito twinkled.
"..sayōnara."
