Of the most impactful global issues facing my generation, pollution ranks amongst the top. So many people, especially in more recent years have neglected the fact that the way we produce and dispose of things is hugely impacting the world in its ability to be a habitat for living beings. We use non-biodegradable plastics, pesticides, foils, etc. on a daily basis in the mass production of foods, home goods, necessity items, and more. These materials are seldom disposed of in a way that which we could recycle them. This means that these harmful products end up sitting all around the Earth, polluting our towns, forests, deserts, and oceans. The animals that live in these habitats have no way of protecting themselves and many may mistake harmful material for food. This is quickly killing off many important species. Combining this with the harm done to the atmosphere due to the amount of artificial material put out in the making and disposing of these products. During my experience in GLA, we will be focusing on marine life and how pollution like this affects them as well as participating in programs in which we may do clean-ups or help with animals that have fallen victim to dangerous materials introduced in their habitat. Though the small number of us doing this may not change anything for good, it's certainly a good point to start.
