"Tiff," Simone went to find her friend when her and Jordan got back inside after their little confession walk."Wassup babe," Tiffany was standing over one of Simone's pies, cutting into it for the kids standing by the table with plates in their hands.
"I just wanted to tell you I'm heading out before I leave."
"Mel! Come do this for me," she called her sister over.
She handed the knife to her sister and pulled Simone to the side.
"It's still early. Why you leaving so soon?"
"I told you I wasn't staying all night. We been up since early, and I still gotta swing by Brian's house before going home."
"Oh you were serious about going over there?" Tiffany raised her eyebrows. "When was the last time y'all even spent a holiday together?"
"I'm only going because my father is over there. Trust me, spending time around Brian is the last thing I wanna be doing right now. Plus... I think it will be good for me to see my niece and nephew. I ain't seen them since they were so small."
"So like... are y'all making amends? Is this long five year feud finally ending?"
"It's not a feud, and I don't know what's happening with us. But we're putting our personal shit aside for the sake of our father. Because he's all I'm worried about right now."
"I really hope Mr. Evans gets better."
"There is no better Tiffany," Simone knew she already knows that, but Tiffany is always saying these things in hopes of making her feel better.
"You never know. It could be a miracle or something."
"Miracles are for stories Tiffany," she could feel herself getting annoyed with her friend's overly optimistic view of the world. "And this is real life."
"Okay," Tiffany pouted, not really sure what else to say to that without pissing Simone off. "Have a good rest of your night I guess. And tell Mr. Evans I said hi," she didn't even give her a hug before walking back towards her sister.
"You ready?" Jordan asked when Simone had made her way back to the front door where he was waiting on her.
"I been ready," she zipped up her jacket and reached down in her purse for her keys.
"Why you look upset?" He asked as they walked out of the house and towards her car.
"I'm not upset," she pressed the button on her keys to open the doors to her all black 2016 Nissan Rogue.
"Aight," he got in the car, pretending that he believed her.
"Jordan?" She said after they had pulled away from Tiffany's house.
"Yeah Simone?" He hummed, his head slowly bopping along to the music in the car as he quietly sang to himself.
"Do you just wanna come with me instead of me just bringing you straight home?"
