It was a slow Tuesday night as the graveyard shift on the Marine Corps base of Twentynine Palms. No calls to respond to or anyone to help.

It was around 0130 in the morning and Patock was with his best friend from the military police school Williams. "Why can't anything happen tonight pat? We're always sitting here doing nothing and it's fucking boring." Williams was always on the edge to do something and work. That was part of his personality, always wanting to do something and can't sit still. "Relax Will, just be patient, plus we have to spray the dog shit and piss soon anyway." Pat said in a tired voice. Pat and Will were K9 handlers on the base and have gone through everything together.

As soon as Patock said that, a call came from a gate sentry. "GATE RUNNER GATE RUNNER GATE RUNNER!" Yelled the gate sentry over the radio. "Black in color Chevy truck blew past and didn't follow our signals!" Dispatch called up two other units to respond but Pat and Wills were the closest to the gate. "Show Kilo 2 in route, 3 mikes out" Pat said to dispatch.

As soon as they arrived to the scene, the suspect was already dead. The gate sentries forgot to say they put up the road barriers to stop the suspect and he didn't have his seat belt on. He flew out the front windshield and slid across the pavement. Blood and parts of the truck were everywhere along the road, putting Williams in shock and stood there. Pat went up to the body and knew he was dead, his head was split open and face was scrapped, arms and legs were twisted in the wrong was that shouldn't be possible.

Other units arrived and put yellow tape around the scene, started paper work while we waited for NCIS to arrive with EMS. "Hey Williams, get your ass over here and see this shit." Pat said in shock and confusion. Pat saw something he's ever seen before, there was a bite mark. It was deep and covered in blood and a black substance that he couldn't put together what the hell it was. "Is that a bite mark Pat?" "Seems like it yeah, I don't know why it could-" "Everyone step back away from the body!" Yelled an NCIS agent. "You will all be sent to the Naval Hospital to get screened for infectious diseases." She yelled with urgency and knew something we didn't, and she wouldn't let us near the body anymore. "Well, guess we provide security until they get it the body out." Pat looked at Williams as he said that, seeing Williams freaking out. "Dude, it'll be okay, don't worry about it. It's probably a crack head that bit the guy and he was freaking out, you know how the crack heads are out here, the have no boundaries." Pat said with a calm and soothing tone. "Yeah, I guess but it's weird isn't it?"

After they got the dead suspect from the scene, NCIS and the watch commander told the units who were on scene to go get screened. It only took and hour or two and they were sent free. Pat and will headed back to the kennels to take care of the dogs.

As Pat was spraying dog shot down the drain, his thoughts kept him busy with what happened only a couple of hours ago. "What was that bite? What was that black goo? No, it can't be, that can't be real. Not in a million-" as he was thinking that, Will scared him. "Pat! Pat Pat Pat Pat Pat!" Will screamed. Pat spun around and soaked Will with the water from the hose. "Jesus man, don't fucking scare me like that you ass hat." "I'm fucking soaked now bruh what the fuck, I'm sorry but come look at this." Pat walked over as Will handed him his phone. One of Wills friend who worked in RPO (range patrol operations) sent him a text saying "We had a crack head wonder into the range areas and wouldn't listen to our commands to stay back, she kept coming with a limp and blood dripping from her mouth. We took shots at her and she didn't budge, so someone else shot her in the head and she dropped. But she had a bite mark on her neck, and there was black stuff over it. What the fuck is going on? NCIS took it away and told us to continue what we do?" As Pat read the text, his heart raced, his mind going into a whirlpool.

Pat decided to sleep at work, still in his gear and Williams did as well. They woke up with the base sirens going off, and the radio chatter going up in flames, and screams in the distance. "Wake up man! We have to go! Shits going down all over the base!" Will yelled. "Guess I'm awake now."
