"MORNING."
"Who got your boxer twisted this early?" Claire asked as Luke plopped down on the dining chair and almost threw his phone on to the table.
Luke ignored his sister's question.
"Honeydew or mixed berries?" Claire held up two bags of frozen fruits when Luke didn't answer.
"Honeydew."
"Veggies?"
"No."
"You didn't answer me," Claire said as she prepared her brother's smoothie, but before Luke made any response, his phone beeped some more.
Luke groaned.
Loudly.
Claire raised an eyebrow brow, her both eyes didn't leave any of Luke's movements, including how he looked torn between the urge to hurl his phone to ignore.
The ignoring won.
Luke kept his face down on the table, but his shoulders slump in resignation.
Couldn't help herself, Claire took Luke's phone. Her eyebrows rose high upon learning what's on the screen.
56 new messages from ... evil witches?
"There's more than 50 messages for you," Claire said.
"Yeah," Luke mumbled incoherently.
"Didn't you wanna read it?" she asked.
"No."
Claire put the phone back on the table. She turned off the blender and poured smoothie into a harvest jar, before she rinsed the blender glass to make her own smoothie.
"Who is she?" Claire put the harvest jar in front of Luke.
"I'm gonna kill her," Luke grumbled when he pushed his body up only to see his phone's screen lit up with yet another new message.
"Do I have to be worried?" Claire asked as she turned off the blender.
She couldn't decide if Luke was being serious or not. Another tricky thing dealing with teens, especially if that particular teenager used to—or still—straying to the wrong lane.
"Yeah, if I decided to murder her," Luke took a healthy sip of his smoothie.
"Oh, come on now," Claire poured her own smoothie into a mug, while she kept staring at her brother. She was about to ask another question when another stream of messages lit up Luke's phone screen.
"Seriously, who is she?" Claire urgently asked. She took the phone and checked the messages.
Blink blink blink
Evil Witches:
Wake up
Wake up
Wake uuuuuuuuup
All of the spam messages contained the same texts.
"What's this?"
"Asked your future niece." Luke gulped the rest of his smoothie and snatched his phone back.
"My what?" Claire confusedly asked.
"Your damn future niece," Luke repeated, as he slung his back and ready to school. "She's been harassing me."
"You mean Amanda? Why did she harass you?"
"Because she had nothing better to do." Luke snorted.
"Oh come on, it must've some legit explanation in there. And why didn't you just block her?"
If anything Claire would be fully certain about, Luke usually just approached the culprit and told them to piss off, not enduring like this.
"I can't," Luke shook his head.
"Can't or won't?"
"Can't."
"And why is that so?"
"Because," Luke sighed deeply. "I'll be tutoring her in biology lessons twice a week, starting tomorrow."
"What?"
If Claire was confused before, Luke's revelation about Amanda's needing his tutor was confusing her more.
"Exactly. Unfortunately I got the highest marks on that subject."
"I don't think getting the highest marks is unfortunate," Claire said despite her confusion.
"Very unfortunate, because it gave her a valid reason to harass me without being afraid to be wronged."
Claire stared at Luke for several moments, trying to wrap the news around her head. Amanda failed her biology class? Sounds almost impossible. And only then she understood why Luke saved her name as Evil Witches. An Evil Witches indeed.
"How could she have failed? She has the perfect resources to study?" she couldn't help but ask.
"That sneaky devil," grumbled Luke. He grabbed his backpack and kissed Claire's cheek. "I should get going or I'll be late. I've enough problems already."
