Chapter 11

    The tube starts rising. I'm still shaking. There's no more of the tube. I'm just on a circular platform. I look around at my surroundings. There's mountains and wheat fields. It's also very hot. Then the thirty second countdown starts. I could be dead in thirty seconds. "30, 29, 28..." I look at all my opponents, all so much bigger than me. "21, 20, 19..." Why did I tell Henry I'm going to win this? He made it very clear the gamemakers are going to kill me. I know my parents must me so scared right now. "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5..." I position my feet to run toward the cornucopia. What am I doing? This wasn't apart of the plan! "3, 2, 1"
    The gong sounds and I take off towards the cornucopia. I run as fast as I can. I get there first. I grab a belt with knives on it and quickly attach it to my waist. The careers all approach me at once. I try to throw a knife at Cannon but we grabs my wrist before I can. This is it. This is where I die.
    "We want you to be apart of the pack." He says rushed.
    "Okay I will." I say. What did I just do? They probably would have killed me if I would have said no. Poor River. I betrayed him. I'm an idiot.
    "Let's go kill people. C'mon have fun!" Cannon says to me. I would say something back but I can't die, not yet. I throw two knives at a time killing both district three tributes. Then, the district five girl runs at me weaponless so I stab her. I look over and see River looking at me. I see the pain in his eyes. "Run" I mouth to him. And he does. He runs into the mountains. Then I throw three knives at both district six tributes and the female from seven. There's a lot of dead bodies on the field. Only the career pack is left. I could leave now, but I have a new plan. As long as they don't kill me first.
    The cannon starts blowing. It goes off twelve times. Twelve people died in the bloodbath. That leaves twelve tributes left.
    We head towards the mountains, the same direction River had gone. If I watch them kill River I will never forgive myself.
    "I saw the district eleven girl go this way. You know the one with a really good score?" Gia says.
    "Oh her. Yeah it probably would be best to hunt the tougher kills down first. Don't you think Sage?" Cannon asks. He's trying to get under my skin. I shouldn't have stayed with them. I should have ran when I could. "Right? Sage?" He asks again in his cold tone.
    "Yeah." I say nervously.
    "That means Clementine, Basil, and River. We'll save him for you. We know just how badly you want to kill him." Laketon says. This makes all of them laugh. I need to run, but my feet don't move.
    "Let's start our hunt then shall we?" Marina asks with a smirk. We start jogging, until we find someone. It's the girl from district 10.
    "I wanna get her!" Marina says making her way to the front.
    "No I want to!" Gia whines. Why are they arguing over who gets to kill a person?
    "How about we let Mellark do it?" Laketon suggests. I hate him. He's trying to intimidate me and it's working. They all are looking at me like I won't do it.
    "Fine." I say. I throw the knife at the girl's head. I wince when the blood splatters everywhere. Another cannon goes off.
    It's been a few hours and we haven't found anyone. As I'm walking I hear a beeping sound. I look all around until I see something in the sky. It's a sponsor gift! It has my name on it so it's obviously for me. They all watch me open it. There's a note. "What the hell are you doing? -mom" I don't even know myself. I look to see what the gift is. It's nightlocks. It was really just what I needed. I don't want to give those psychos the satisfaction of killing me. I unzip the pocket of my jacket when Talia snatches them from me.
    "Hey! No don't-" It's too late. She already ate them all. She stands there shocked for five seconds and falls dead. Another cannon goes off. I bet the capitol citizens are loving this.
