You know that line from Ed Sheeran's "The A Team" that stated - The worst things in life comes free to us?- I guess I just finally have an understanding of it. With recent events I wouldn't be surprised if my life turned out to be a book. Maybe it's because, I don't know, my life started with losing half my family to a rogue war, constantly being bullied and now to top it all off I get rejected by my mate. Wow I never knew how awesome my life was (note the sarcasm).

Despite everything that has happened to me, the worst was not being selfless enough to notice the immense pain my mum is going through, has in fact been for a while, with the lost of her beloved mate. I might not remember him, but to her he was everything. I can't believe how selfish I have been, laying my problems on her but not once asking her if she was okay.

You might be wondering, what on earth is he going on about? It all started when I heard sobbing from my mum's room, even though she hadn't been looking very well lately, I just brushed it off thinking it might be a little fever or something unimportant. But hearing her cry breaks my heart. I made my way to her door knocking on it.

"Come in" she faintly replied.
Making my way to where she sat on her bed, I took a seat and hugged her.
"Mum what's wrong?"
"Nothing Darling, don't worry about it."
"It's not nothing, because if it were, you wouldn't be crying."
"What! I was not crying, I had something in my eyes."
"Mum I've known you my whole life I think I would know when you're crying, plus that's the oldest trick in the book. So now would you please tell me what's wrong?"
"You wouldn't understand baby," she defended.
"Try me."

"It's ju- it's just that I miss your father so much," her voice cracked.
"You know I never got to say goodbye, I never got to kiss my mate goodbye and now - and now he's  gone forever."
"Oh mum, come here." I hug her tightly.
"Why didn't you tell me, you don't have to go through this alone. You were there for me when I used to get bullied, you still took care of me when dad died, you've always been there  for me mother."

"Sure, I don't exactly know the pain you're going through. But I have a little sense of what it feels like and-"
"What do you mean?"  she asked.
"Well uhm... I got Reject by my mate" I stated.
"Oh baby, I'm so sorry. "
"There you go again mum,  you don't have to worry about me."

"I love you and I'll always be here for you. I might have been rejected, but it's okay because I didn't really know him and I never liked him that way anyways. You had known dad your entire life and I know I have been selfish for not noticing earlier, please forgive me, now that I know I promise to be there for you okay? For now we're all we've got so we have to be there to help each other okay?"

"There's nothing to forgive and I love you too. Wow when did you become so smart?" she asks.
"I learnt it from you" I say
"Aww-" she looked thoughtful for a second, "thanks baby, I'm really glad you are my son"

"You're welcome, you're glad? I should be the one thankful to have you as my mum. Now dry your tears and go to sleep, goodnight" I said while wiping her cheeks and kissing it.
"Goodnight Darling."
