You buried your face in your pillow and fought back your frustration. "Y/n? Are you all right?""I'm just... confused. Mitsuri, how can people hate someone they used to love so much that... that they disown them?"
Her look turned from concern to sadness. "I'm... not sure. I cant imagine it, but... if you're talking about Shinazugawa, then... I think it would be best to stay out of it. Not only is it their personal business for them to sort out, but... I don't know if their relationship can be salvaged anymore. It's been years."
You nodded solemnly.
"I've extended my stay." Mitsuri mumbled. "Uh, I'm staying here for a little while longer, and getting a new sword myself. It should be done soon. In the meantime, you're welcome to leave, or stay." She sighed.
"Oh... okay. I think I'm ready to sleep in my own bed." You sighed and sat down on the floor with your back against the wall behind you. "Yeah. I'm ready to go home."
"All right." Mitsuri said. "I'll let the Kakushi know. You'll leave tonight."
-
Days later, you finally got back to Mitsuri's estate. You huffed and flopped onto the first soft surface you saw- your bed- and laid there for several minutes thinking about nothing in particular.
Your stomach growled and cramped in hunger. Oh, my God- Surely we have food around here. You got up and went to the kitchen, noticing that Mitsuri's cook book was set out on the counter. It was open to a page on sweets, particularly ohagi.
Okay-! First of all, fuck you universe. Second of all, I get it. You wrote down the recipe and threw it in your pocket, wrote a note to Mitsuri, grabbed your sword, and only half-willingly set out on a mission of your own.
I'm gonna make the best ohagi ever, and apologize to Sanemi for being nosy. You were excited to prove your skills in the kitchen, especially since there would be actual cooks at Sanemi's estate.
Your crow swooped down and pecked your head. "Where do you think you're going, hmm?!" It squawked.
"Ow! Cut it out!" You waved it off and frowned. "I'm going to a friends. Why?"
"You have a mission! It's been far too long since you're last!"
"Okay! I'll go on the dumb mission!" You ducked and covered your head as your crow swooped down to peck at it again. "But first, do you know the way to the Wind Pillar's estate?"
Your crow laughed- though it was hard to tell if it was a laugh or screaming- "Of course I know the way! I'm no amateur!" It sat down on your head and flared it's wing out. "Head West! Your mission is luckily on the way! Go now! Hurry!"
It took to the sky and circled around you until you stood up and began following it.
"Sanemi mentioned it was a two or three day walk, so it's not super far. I can walk through the night and cut down on the trip." You mumbled to yourself, jumping over a root and landing hard. "Uff! The mission will take up to three days, depending on how long I takes to track it down and, furthermore, kill it, so I'm looking about five- maybe six- days of getting there. There should be a town between me and Sanemi, given that there's a demon. This'll be easy."
You huffed and decided to practice your flexibility while waking. Back hand spring. Double flip. You landed with a thump and smiled. Mitsuri would be proud. She was always proud regardless of how poorly you performed.
-
"I won't let you kill me!" The demon shrieked, it's head already falling to the floor.
