The next day I woke up to Carl yelling at dad to wake up. Then I heard him walk towards the back door and not come back for a while. I was getting up and putting my boots on when he walked back in. I walked down the stairs enough to see him sit down next to day and say, "I took down 3 walkers today. I'm not a little kid anymore, no more kid stuff, right? I don't need you to keep me safe, or Jamie. I can keep her safe. You couldn't keep mom safe, Judith, Dylan, Andrea, Hershel, Daryl, Michonne, none of us. I wouldn't even care if you died!"
I ran down the stairs the rest of the way, "don't you ever say that again. You would be crushed!" I turned to walk away when dad started crawling toward Carl. We both looked at each other and started to cry.
"No, dad, I'm so sorry!" Carl said, but no matter how many times Carl said it, dad just kept coming. Carl dropped his gun and was just going to let dad eat him. I pulled my gun out when I heard dad force out words.
"Carl, stay inside. Stay safe. Jamie.." dad said.
I re-holstered my gun and dropped beside Carl, "I told you. You were just gonna let him kill you."
"I know. I didn't mean it. Do you think he's going to be okay?"
"Yeah, he just took a shit ton of pain medicine for his body. That's what's wrong with him. He should be okay tomorrow or so."
"Okay, I'm going to go to sleep."
"I'll be upstairs, okay?"
"Okay, hey, Jamie?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you miss Daryl and Dylan?"
"More everyday. Get some rest, Carl. I love you."
"I love you too," he smiled.
I waited until Carl was asleep before I put dad back on the couch, then went upstairs. When I got up there I cried. Of course I missed them.
The next day I woke up to Carl and dad in the kitchen with dad eating dry cereal, "dry?" I laughed scaring them both.
"Jamie! You can't sneak up on people like that. You could've been shot!" Dad said.
"Sorry. Carl, why aren't you eating?"
"Two words. Chocolate. Pudding," he laughed.
"How much?" Dad asked.
"20 pounds," he chuckled.
"You didn't bring any back to share?" I asked.
"No," he said and we all laughed.
We were sitting in the living room, dad and Carl on the floor in front of the couch and me laying on the couch behind them reading, when we heard a knock on the door. Dad jumped up and looked through the peak hole, "what is it? A walker?" I asked.
"It's for you," dad smiled.
I looked through the door and quickly undid the knots, "Michonne!" I yelled as I threw open the door and hugged her.
