Chapter One
Max Anderson who is the young detective working for a small Police Department. He had been able to move up the ranks very quickly because of the smallest of the area. He had made himself rather indispensable to the department with his ability to clear unique cases. He was able to handle the worst of the worst. He could go into any scene and start to see clues right off the bat. There were things that were completely obvious to him that were not obvious to other people.
On this particular day he was making notes in his notebook as he even got to the scene. There seemed to be a lot of news coverage already about the death of the person that was there. he sighed as he looked at the vultures better known as the news anchors that were trying to get everything done quickly. They wanted to be the first with the scoop so everybody was trying to ask questions.
None of the people would say anything that were coming in and out of the scene. The small apartment complex with off the beaten path and seem to have pretty good security. Max had never heard of this particular apartment complex which meant that the crime rate was rather low around the area. Max had been called into pretty much every area in the county to investigate one thing or another period even for the other departments that were nearby Max was often called in when case was too difficult to work. Or if the lead detective needed an extra set of eyes to help.
Of course, he wasn't always on call like a normal detective would be. He had started his career as a person in the military and after he was injured and had to recover and go through numerous surgeries he got out and then went to the police Academy right after he went to college. Now he was doing two different jobs with the police department's help. He was a professor at one of the local universities as well during the day.
This case landed on his desk just a few hours ago but it was a Saturday so he took it and thought that it would be a quick open and shut homicide. However, with the amount of news coverage he was starting to wonder if there was something about the victim that he didn't know. As he got out of his car, he took in the scene that was before him and then made his way over to the police tape that was keeping everybody at bay. He showed his badge and then made his way underneath the tape.
As he got closer to the door, he happened to spot another officer that was a little more senior than him however they were just an officer he was a detective now. That didn't get in the way of their camaraderie so when Max made his way up to him the man put out his hand and shook it.
"Good to see you again Anderson. Does this mean that you're gonna be back on the force full time or are you still taking that cushy professor gig as well?" Officer Brown said as he looked at Max and smiled.
"Still doing both." Max said as he answered the man and then looked around, "did I miss something about who the victim was. I hadn't done a quick search on him but it seems that he's garnering a lot of attention from the media."
"You don't know who the victim is?" officer brown asked as he looked at Max with wide eyes.
"I don't have a clue." Max said as he looked into the file and of course it already had the person's name in it. However, the name that didn't mean anything to Max and he knew pretty much all the local celebrities that lived in the area. Most of them were just small-time people who garnered a little bit of fame at some point in their life. The area was completely peppered with families that had money well. However, he had never heard this person's name period of that he was absolutely sure of.
"Have you ever heard of tik tok?" Officer Brown asked as he looked at Max who was trying to think of anything that would have that name.
"No what is tik tok?" Max asked as he looked at the man who looked at him like he had grown three heads. He wasn't much older than most of then Max knew that even though he worked with young people most of the time there was still some kind of generational divide between them. Max was never one of the cool hip kids when he was growing up let alone now where he had two professional jobs and really had no patience for half of the things that the younger people did hi in their lives.
"It's an app where you can share videos." Officer Brown said as he looked at Max and wondered where he's been hiding for the past couple of years with as many times as tik tok has been in the news.
"So are social media thing?" Max asked as he looked at the man. He still didn't quite understand why this was even a thing or why it was being brought up right now. "If it is I try to stay away from all social media. I find it a little bit safer considering that one of the professions that we have involves putting people away for a little while in jail. I don't want anyone to be in danger because they're associated with me."
"Well that make sense to a point but in this you don't really have to post anything you can just sit there and watch. It's one of those things where you can just zone out for a little while." Officer Brown replied and that was when Max really just wanted to know what was going on and why they were even talking about an application for a phone or tablet.
"OK I understand that but what does this tik tok thing have anything to do with this particular case. I understand that I don't know anything about it but I really don't understand why you're even bringing it up right now." Max said as he looked at the man hoping that he would be able to get a little bit of information. At least to why the media was having a frenzy in front of the crime scene.
"Anderson the victim was a huge creator on tik tok. that's why the media is here. It's gonna go national just because of who this person was and what they supposedly stood for." Officer Brown said and then he looked at the media and shook his head. "This is one that you probably need to work your magic on it and close quickly and hand it off to the DA. Otherwise we're going to have the national news here looking over us for quite a while."
"Wonderful." Max replied as he looked at the media and knew that his day just got a lot harder.
