My left leg was stretched out, it was kind of bent at the knee, but I couldn't get it any straighter. My right leg was bent, having my right foot make contact with my left inner thigh. I reached down to try and touch my outstretched leg's foot. A grunt of frustration escaped my mouth through gritted teeth as my arms extend but refused to make contact. My groans must've been quite loud as I heard many muffed giggles throughout the room. Slowly, I lifted my head and turned toward everyone else.
All of the girls had their gazes focused on me. Even the instructor looked over at me with her mouth all twisted as she attempted to hide her smile.
"I can see how you broke your leg break dancing now," Nayeon chuckled as she stretched her shoulders.
"I don't know what you mean. I'm doing a wonderful job here," I responded in a feigned cocky voice.
The instructor walked over my way, "It's alright, we all start somewhere. Here get back in the position you were in before." I followed her words and did the same thing that I was teased about just moments before.
"Are you feeling any tension anywhere?"
I furrowed my brow, "No, not really."
"So then what are you stretching?" She kneeled next to my left leg and slowly pushed it down until it was flat on the floor. I winced slightly as I felt my tendons stretching. "Now reach down as I hold your leg here," she continued on.
I looked over at her with furrowed brows. My face was pitiful I'm sure. But I grinned and dealt with it. Slowly I started bending down. Almost instantly I felt tension in my lower back. This might be a wake-up call to do less weight lifting and more yoga, pilates, or cardio.
The instructor must've realized that I wasn't going to go down any further. She looked up at me with a smile, but his time it wasn't a teasing grin, it was a comforting smile.
"See, that's better. Hold that for a while then switch legs."
I looked up at her whilst still trying to reach my foot, "Will do. Thank you for your help."
We all continued stretching for at least twenty minutes. All of the members put me to shame. They were doing splits with ease. Others went straight into dance practice, mouthing the words to the song as they slowly danced along. It was a mixture of movement, none of which I could ever replicate. It was interesting to bear witness too though. I surely felt special.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of the managers look at the clock on the wall. She looked over at me. I returned the gaze. She gestured me over to her. I followed.
"They are about to begin practice. Would you mind sitting here with us for a while?" She said in a kind, hushed tone.
"Sure thing," I responded with a smile. She pointed to a seat that was empty to her left. I plopped down happily. I rolled my shoulders a bit and kicked out my legs until everything felt back to their normal stiff selves.
The instructor clapped two times, signally the official beginning of the class. The girls separated into two lines, five in the front and four in the back.
The teacher began, "I know that we have only practiced this a few times but let's see what you all remember from the last time we went over this." She looked at a certain few members more than the rest, mainly Jeongyeon and Jihyo. I suppose Chaeyoung wasn't just messing around with her comment about them this morning.
There was slight chatter among the members. They all began arranging themselves in a three-by-three line formation, something interesting about it though was that it wasn't a head-on angle, it was diagonal.
