Nightfall comes fast. Only two more cannons have gone off. We set up camp. I hope my plan works.
"Who wants to be watch?" Asks Marina.
"I will." I blurt. "I will."
"Sorry Mellark I don't know we can trust you with that. You and your poison berries you know?" Gia says jokingly.
"I'll do it." Cannon says. My plan won't work. I'll just run away at midnight.

Everyone is sleeping except for Cannon and me. The anthem starts playing. Then pictures of the dead tributes are shown in the sky. Talia is first, both from three, the boy from four, then both from five, six, seven, the boy from eight, both from nine, and the girl from ten. River didn't die. If my plan works I will start looking for him.
"That's," Cannon pauses, "a lot."
"Yeah it is. More than usual." I say.
"You should go to bed. I'm good at keeping watch." I turn and pretend to sleep, but I wake not knowing how long it's been. It's still dark. It's probably around three or four. None of them are awake. Not even Cannon who said he was "good at keeping watch."
This is the perfect and possibly only opportunity for my plan. I grab four knives out of my belt. Get into position, just like I do when I'm hunting. I think of the deer I killed the day before the reaping. I freeze. I can't help, but think that's what they will look liked I kill them. I can't do this, but I need to if I want to win. I only have one shot at this. If this fails I'm dead. I suddenly release the four knives from my hand. Each of them landed where they needed. Four cannons immediately go off. I did it! Now there's not that much competition left.
I wake up. I here something. I get up ready to throw a knife. It's the boy from district ten. I think he was a butcher or something back in his district. He's holding an ax running directly at me. I instantly run as fast as I can farther back into the mountains. He's still chasing me.
"I'm gonna get you Mellark!" He yells after me. I'm running towards what looks to be a cliff with a long drop too, but I keep running. I see a tree with sturdy long branches I can jump and hang onto. I approach the cliff and jump. I catch the tree branch with one arm, while the boy from district ten wasn't so lucky. I watch him fall. His ax comes flying up right before he hits the ground. It doesn't looked like he aimed it at me at all. A cannon goes off. Then, I start hearing buzzing. Confused, I start looking all around for what it could be. It's tracker jackers. There's a big nest of them with an ax in the middle. So that's what he through the ax at. I feel a sharp pain in my right arm. One stung me. I feel another pain in my leg. Another stung me! I start feeling pain everywhere. I try to look around and keep my head up, but it's hard. My surroundings spin violently. My hand starts to slip from the tree.
