Red.
Red was the only color in my sight.
The bright crimson flowed out from the wound in my arm. I would've screamed if their hand wasn't on my mouth.
The blood that was oozing out of my chest just a moment before turned a deep, red wine color as it dried. My eyes darted across the thousands of trees stuck in the earth as the people around me held me down.
Despite the adrenaline pumped throughout my nerves I had a hard time trying to keep my eyes open, nothing was going through my mind except for a 4 word sentence, "don't close your eyes."
I knew if I did I wouldn't open them again.
I started to struggle against them as I felt the thin sting of life I was gripping so dearly started to withered away.
I eventually, begrudgingly, closed my eyes, expecting to take my last breathe in a few seconds.
I felt the masked people leave me alone, in the woods, bleeding to death.
I tried to open my eyes but to no avail. No matter how much I attempted, there was nothing I could do. Nothing.
I started thinking of what I have to do, what I haven't done. I still need to finally meet my mom, still need to... find a small town to move to... get my own house.. maybe find someone to marry.
I was preparing my last thoughts as my pain became numb, the only thing I felt was the gentle breeze and the tickle of insects crawling inside my open cuts and wounds.
I immediately open my eyes as soon as I could to see myself on a floating island in a void.
That's all that happened, right?
I kept replaying it over and over and over and over and...
When did she get here?
There was a tall, thin women holding a scythe. She had long hair, very pretty.
"So you finally noticed me?" She said, she didn't make it sound like a question but more of a statement.
"What the... Are you.. death? How long has it been? Where am I? What am I doing here? Where is..." my voice trailed off as I realized I didn't remember his name..
"What is.. my name?"
"You ask alot of questions, sugar," my heart fluttered a bit at the nickname. "First, I ain't death, I'm death's daughter, I'm Amu. Second, I have no clue how long it been for you. I don't know when you died. Time is weird here in Limbo."
"Limbo?!" I was in Limbo??? Why was I not in heaven? Isn't Limbo a place where people go that don't worship God?
"Hold on, don't get too uptight yet. I know that some people are told that Limbo is a place where people who don't worship that chrome dome, decked out, dove, up there, or.. I don't know where heaven would be here. It's technically a different dimension or somethin'" How was she saying all this information so casually?
"Anyway, fourth," I was about to ask about third but technically she already told me where I was. "You died," I had expected that but it still kinda felt way out, like it hadn't happened or something. It still hurt almost.
"And finally, fifth and sixth, actually... what if..." "What if what?" "Would you want to make a small bet?"
...
"What kind of bet?" "What if you could find out your or that panty waist's name I'll give you something." "What would I even want? And how would I find out how to do that if I'm here?"
She gave a puzzling look at me and than said "Oh, I didn't tell you yet, did I? When someone first dies he or she get transported here than he or she gets to choose if they want to go to hell, heaven, or stay here depending on how bad or good they are, or if they want to go to back to earth, weather it's to see how their family is doing or to be doing somethin'"
"I also don't know if you have noticed yet but have you looked at yourself?" "What's that suppose to mean?" I ask, a bit taken back. "Oh, sorry I didn't mean to be mean. Just when you die you get given a new form."
'New form?' I look down at my body to see a very light green. I jump as I realized, I slowly grab a lock of my hair to see a blue-green color. I slowly look to Amu.
"Yeah, anyway, you want to go to earth?"
I think for a moment.
"Yes."
"You want to make that bet?"
"What do I get?" "I'll give you a new power, how about that?"
"Sure," I stand up on the grassy land. "And you promise that you will actually do that?" "When someone shakes on something here you literally cannot go back on it unless both partys are fine with it, k?"
"..." "Come on, gimme some skin, will'ya?" She floated down to me with her hand out. I reluctantly grab her hand and shake.
"There, now, how long do you think it's been?" "What? I dunno, a day at least?" "Okay," She made a motion with her hand and I was surrounded by green smoke-y stuff.
"You have a few powers but you can figure those out, you will spawn back to where you died, humans can't see you, you don't have to eat, sleep, and you CAN die again." She said all at once.
"Bye!" She waved farewell to me.
It all happened too fast to process immediately.
